We will be going to New England on Sept. 7th. How do I pack for the weather? We have always cruised to warmer ports. My cruise clothes are all summer items.

Any help would be VERY appreciated!
Thanks to all, Phyllis
Where are you cruising to? You know what September is like in PA. New England is cooler. I suggest you pack for cool evenings.

I suggest you pack slacks, jeans and light sweaters... a few shorts just in case it gets hot. I also suggest a light jacket depending if any of your excursions are on the water.
Yes.. layers is the key. Boston is wonderful place with so much history. I hope you have time to look around. If you do and want to live a little history.. go here... http://www.celticweb.com/greendragon/
I know you'll enjoy your cruise no matter where you go.

We're doing this same trip - leaving next Friday (8/31) - I'm packing a few lightweight 3-pc hoody/pants/t-shirt outfits for shore excursions, a couple of crop pants/capris for any warmer days, a lightweight sweatshirt, some jeans (not for the dining room!) and, being the eternal optimist, one bathing suit. Oh, yeah - and being practical, one fold-up umbrella. Evenings don't matter much as it is always cold in the casino/dining room, so I'll pack the same as for any cruise.
Gerif: I think I peeked in your suitcase! I really am taking the same items! Jogging suits for the ports, capris etc; and colorcrazie: The ponchos have been purchased!

The only way to describe New England weather in September and October is "Highly Variable." During the first week of September, you may to encounter both days in the 90's, especially in the south, and nights in the teens, especially in the northern reaches. For daytime wear, I would bring a couple pairs of shorts, a few pairs of slacks, a few sweaters or sweatshirts, a light jacket, a heavy jacket, warm gloves, and a warm hat. For ladies, skirts of various weights and lengths would be a viable alternative to shorts and slacks. Bear in mind that you might not actually wear all of this, but there's no way to know what conditions you actually will encounter.
