Default space bags & vacuum

Anyone been able to borrow/use a vacuum on board (perhaps from the room steward)? These bags really help reduce space & wrinkles (such as for jackets), but wish they had a vacuum on board.

Thanks for any suggestions.

We have used the space bags for packing dirty clothes coming home. What we do is fill them up and push as much air out as possible by sitting on them.
It works pretty good.

I have wondered about that too. I have some space bags but I got the kind that you roll up. I bet the room steward would let you use the vacuum to suck the air out. I would love to be able to bring the large ones if they were able to work correctly.

I have been thinking about the same thing. I plan to ask the steward on our upcoming trip about using a vac., as we will help with our bulky clothes on the alaska trip next year.
I have both types, and maybe it is my age, but I have trouble 'rolling' up those types of space saver bags. The vac. ones are the best.
Safe travels,
Nona

I tried rolling up the bags & it worked some, but the steward used the vac & that really worked best. Our steward knew what it was & I caught them with the vac, so it wasn't much of an imposition. I really needed the space since I was planning to mail some things, but was unable to do so.

::hearts:: for space bags! i pack so much junk it would take me four suitcases to fit it all if not for space bags...!

just ask your room steward; he/she will more than likely be willing to help. happy cruising!

Pack it folders. Look for them on sale.

Ive done both and the folders win hands down.

Bags break and rip and wrinkle clothes. Folders are forever.

I just found this post and I know it is an older one but I had to put my 2 cents in. I have used the space bags that do not require a vacum on my last 3 cruises and I love them. I found them at our local WalMart in the luggage section. I pack them full and (then here comes the funny part) I lay them on the floor and roll my body over them. It does force the air out better than just rolling them up. When I arrive onboard the ship I unpack them and pull out the wrinkle release spray. This spray works great for me. Since most of the clothes will be hanging for a while before I need it that helps the wrinkles fall out. I have been well please with these 2 items and can get so much more in less space. I plan on using them again in Feb. on my cruise.

really see no need for vac bags myself but likely your room steward would willingly let you use his vac when he gets to your room, whatever time that is, depending on your location.....

Default Plastic Trash Bags Do the Trick

I assume you're talking about packing to head home? I put all my dirty clothes in a regular large trash bag (brought from home) and lean on it to remove all the air and tie it shut with a large bread tie. It shrinks right down and into the suitcase with ease!

I do the same thing with the dirty clothes and agree, it works great! I've never used spacebags (I fear wrinkles for the clean clothes). I pack by laying all our pants/capris/shorts flat and roll them. Same with DH's shirts. I lay all of them flat on top of one another, fold in the sleeves and roll them. I've had good luck with this method. No heavy wrinkles or creases after unpacking. After unpacking, any minor wrinkles usually fall out after hanging free for a while.

ARE YOU SERIOUS! That is why they invented TRAVEL SPACE BAGS that release air by pressing it out.

I wish I could watch you travel with a bag that requires a real vacuum cleaner, and try to get your stuff back in the suitcase when you find out that their isn't one that will work!

Think, people, think!
