Default tux shirt with black suit

This one is for the fashion police....
Would an all-black suit pass with a tuxedo-style shirt (including black bow tie and cumberbund, French cuffs, links etc)?? Should he drop the cumberbund since it is not a tux and just wear the shirt and tie??

My opinion, and that of most fashion folk, is no. Don't try to make a "pretend" tuxedo. Either go with the black suit, a nice silk, full length tie and white dress shirt. If you have a decent suit you'll look better than some of the bargain tuxedos. If you try to fake it you'll look "Like you are trying to fake it."

It also very easy to change it for the next formal night. Just wear a different color tie. i.e. Black one night and gold the next.

Take care,
Mike

Sorry have to disagree with you on this one. GoFishGrif posted on here in his Inspiration review that he did that exact thing and it looked good. It looked like a basic tux. In truth there is very little difference between the tux jacket and the suit jacket.

Its really up to you though how formal you get. My BF wore a basic pin striped suit and tie, looked good also. Carla

I appreciate both responses. He usually just wears the black suit with nice silk tie and white dres shirt and looks great, but may see how we like the tux style shirt with it. This cruise will involve 3 formal nights, so can do both.

I think I'd go with the suit or the tux, keep it simple, wear the tux shirt with the tux and a dress shirt with the suit since you have 3 formal evenings.

i agree with Mike and Donna on this one, wear a tux shirt with a tuxedo, wear a plain white or colored shirt with a nice tie with the suit.
