Would a Black Suit outfit be ok on Formal Night for a woman.

Sure. Dress it up with a bit of jewelry, if you like.

That should be fine! Is the suit dress or pants? Not that it matters either way, as long as you are comfortable.

I agree with Donna and Marty. I found these pants on line I think they are elegant and look formal Picture them with this shirt. Formal all the way. I thinking for buying them. I love the shoes to but they aren't on the website.

katlady - i love that outfit! perfect for formal night.
getting back to the original question- a suit is fine- just take it from business to dressy with a silk, satin or sparkly top, dressy shoes & some bling!

Default it depends

I think it depends on the cut of the suit, the material & the cruise line.

I'm thinking something I'd wear to the office which is certainly not formal & can not be made formal just by wearing a sparkly top.

Flyaway pants & a glamourous top with strappy sandels & great jewelry should be fabulous.

I think that it mostly depends only on the cruise line. Mainstream, a business suit "gussied up" is fine.

I agree with those who have said it depemnds on the cruise line. I would not wear a black suit on board QM2 which I have laready beenon and am booked again in July2008. However , on HAL I t would be very appropriate.

Yes but most of the women wear dresses, long dresses.

I have worn a pant suit outfit of black velvet and I felt and looked fine
but most all women were in dresses.

Ofcourse you can skip the whole dress up thing and just go to the buffet on formal night and avoid all that extra packing.

That depends upon the cruise line.

>> Some cruise lines do not have a buffet at dinner.

>> Some cruise lines have a published policy that the evening dress code applies throughout the ship, except in certain designatted "casual" areas (typically the buffet restaurant, the pool area, the fitness center, the aft topside bar, and the disco). If you don't dress properly for the "formal" evenings, your options for entertainment may be extremely limited.

>> And most cruise lines pull out all the stops in the dining room and the shows on the "formal" nights, with the best menus and extra touches such as sorbet between courses to cleanse the pallate, the best production shows of the cruise, and special events that do not occur on other nights.

So those who do not participate in the "formal" evenings often miss out pretty badly.

Norm.

Yes, I wore a black suit once and it was quite appealing. I made sure to wear a bright camisole and added some bling bling. Is this suit a business type suit.

Sure. Use some color on your face, accessorize well, and you'll be a hit!
