Country Club Attire??

I am planning on going to my 40th high school reunion in the fall and the invitations say country club attire. So what would be considered "Country Club Attire"?
We don't belong to c country club, never will, but want to go to the reunion and not be to formal or casual.

A suit or nice cocktail dress.

it also depends upon the time of day. Afternoon- dress slacks, dress shirt/tie and blazer for the men, and a nice dress for the ladies (think garden wedding) evening - suit for the men, a nice cocktail dress for the lady

Thank You for your replies. I was thinking along those lines, but wanted to check with all you helpful folks. :D

It could also men, for men, a golf polo shirt with dress shorts. For a woman, a sleeveless tailored shirt with dress shorts.

Michael - i am not 100% on this one, but i think that your last description might be considered as "country club casual", can anyone clarify??

Lisa, I am just confused :-? as to what they are actually asking for. That is why I added a second posting. I have been a member of two different country clubs and have attended parties at both of them and most recently attended a birthday party for an uncle at a third country club. Oopps, I am fibbing. I have been a member of THREE country clubs and the garb I mentioned in this posting is the common wardrobe for them, even for that birthday party. I giggle to myself because this could go either way. LOL

"Country Club Attire" is not a standard specification of dress, so your best bet might be to call the party who extended the invitation and ask what they mean by it.

Norm.

Norm offered some very good advise. Also the venue where your reunion is being held could make a difference

Yeah might mean big puffy plaid pants, white shoes with spikes, a white polo and yellow sweater. Oh and a big puffy cap.

Three stooges golf episode comes to mind.

Norm is right.........better ask.
