I keep hearing that you need tennis shoes. But I wear mainly heels or loafers. Does anyone know where you can buy SHOE STRIPS for the bottom of your shoes? The make the bottom of your shoes NON SLIPABLE??? ( Is that even a word? )
Hi You use to be able to purchase these at shoe stores, however since most
people do wear atheletic shoes of some type you may not be able to find them.
Try checking on the internet.
Am I missing something here? You need sneakers? I have never packed sneakers..I suppose what you select for excursions determines if you need a rubber soled shoe..there are many that have rubber soles and are not sneakers. Pick up a cheap pair of sneakers, sales everywhere now, or, take a rough emory board and rough up the soles of your shoes.

It really depends on how much walking you are going to do and over what type of terrain you will be walking.
You wouldn't want to walk the cobblestone streets of Parati, Brasil with heels. Then again, walking the port area of Cozumel is fine in a pair of flats will probably be just fine.
There are many different types of athletic and walking shoes on the market. Many don't look like "sneakers" and are fairly stylish. These shoes are non-slip and give you great support for a full day on your feet.
Nothing will ruin your day onshore more than a bad or wrong type of shoe.
Take care,
Mike

so much depends upon where you are going and what type of excursion you are planning on doing, and if a lot of walking will be involved. If you want to just wander around town areas then loafers would be fine, if you want to hit the beaches or do anything that involves water then water sandals or the tennis shoes would be the way to go, leave the heels on board to wear to dinner and afterwards
Well, you'll need your heels for formal night, but I wouldn't do an excursion requiring walking or a beach in them!
Any type of comfortable, low heeled show will do both on the ship and off.
As for me, I live in my flip flops! (but I do pack sneakers for the gym and the Walk for the Cure!)
SusanMarie- depending upon your excursion choices, there can be alot of walking on an Alaska tour, you might want to re-think tennis shoes for an athletic shoe of some sort with good support in it. Other than that, kitten heels for evening - perfect
