I love the night life on a cruise ship, the music, show and dancing but my wife would rather head back to the room around 9 pm and read a book
Does anyone else have this problem? How do you handle it? I'm 45 and my wife is 51 so were not that old yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
happy sailings
Tim

I am usually back in the cabin between 11-12..I like to fill up the night with the show, and maybe a short stay in the casino, and browse the shops a bit...I keep my reading for my daytime activity.
Does she like to dance, or go see muiscian acts at home? Maybe you should plan to dine at the late seating, you would be out around ten,and maybe she would have already read pre dinner, and then, go with you to a few things...
I knew someone who spent most of her time in the cabin reading,,that was just her thing....

Hmmm--several things come to my warped mined--does she like to cruise with you?? What about gathering all the books and dumping them overboard?? Maybe you should just get her settled in bed at 9 with her book, kiss her on the forehead and say " bye dear--see you around 2 or so!" and hit the door. Or, last but not least, book 2 of the least expensive inside cabins you can get. One for you and one for her. Buy her about a dozen books and after dinner , about 9, get her settled into her cabin in bed with her book and again, give her a kiss on the forehead, say good night and hit the door.
Bet it wouldn't take to long until she might come around to your way of thinking. If not, then you're free to hit the singles parties, etc.
Seriously, wish I could offer better advice but does she really like to cruise?
I'm not one to stay out all night. We always have late seating and by the time dinner is over we can catch the shows, spend some time in the casino or have a drink and by that time it's midnight or so and we usually turn in. I can't imagine going to bed on a ship at 9.pm.
Good luck bro !
Ron, she does like to cruise, she just isn't much of a partier. My DW cruises to relax.
Lulu, you and my wife would get along just fine.
Late seating for dinner Trip? Not a bad idea, but after eating that late I might be ready for bed by 10pm...lol

May-be the two of you could strike up some kind of deal, where she goes to a show after dinner, then goes back to the cabin to read and the next night, you both just go back to the cabin? May work, you both have to give and take....
I do enjoy the shows after dinner, but after that, may-be a quick trip to the casino and its to bed for me, so I can understand her just wanting to relax on her cruise.
On your next cruise, try HA. Those ships shut them down a little after sundown. Then you won't have anything to do but join her reading or something else together.

Then she goes back to the cabin to read and you go and enjoy yourself ( unless of course you are on HAL when you may as well retire early because the ship is dead anyway)
Personally I don't see the problem
If she is so selfish that she wants to do her thing with no thought for what you want then I say let her do it!!!! As long as she realises that there are a lot of singles on cruise ships that would be all too happy to keep you company after 9pm!!! Sounds to me like it would be her loss. Way too many selfish women out there that get too comfortable in their relationships and don't want to change!!!!
Bad news for her I'm afraid.
Well Jen, she knows I wouldn't mess around on her. It isn't really any fun to go dancing or shows by myself. Hence the thread here.

Maybe watch what she does during the day & night to make sure she has more ebergy at night. Give her a NAP in the afternoon so she isn't sleepy, at night and go slow on the wine with dinner.
And then just ask her to give the nightlife a try - she will probably have more fun than she thinks. Make a deal with her where you two get to do what YOU want at least one certain nights.
Otherwise, I would go alone and just meet & dance with other people - there is no harm in that as long as she knows you aren't "that guy." If you do that enough, she'll start wanting to go.

My husband is the one to go back and read early at night. I leave him and hit the casino or go to a show by my self. I would rather have him there for the shows. But the casino I would rather go my self. It is like when you go shopping and really don't want your husband to know how much you spent. Or even win. Note, I take my own money so he has no idea what I am spending.
Personally I don't see the problem. After dinner and the show I sometimes go back to the cabin and read and hubby goes and makes a donation in the casino. I also go to some of the shows by myself and he hits the casino. That's what I love about the ship. We totally feel safe moving about without one another. We always end up at the end together and we are happy.... Most important, enjoy yourself!!
I feel like the shows and the dancing are more enjoyable when there is someone you love to share them with....don't you?

Now that is funny as my OH loves to do the shows and reads / naps in the afternoon but prefers to bed around 11:30 though if we have a good group at our table we can agree to have at least one drink and next thing we have closed the bar.
I've done the single wandering at night and not quite right unless I know someone to chat with otherwise it is like being single again but with a leash, not fun.

That's similar to us. I tried the strategy of eating late, but then we are BOTH tired! ! If we get a nap in, that helps us both be ready for a night at the a pub on the ship.
I've decided cruising with some friends is in order. Or making friends with another person on board (preferably the same sex so there are no worries for DH!). I enjoy so much other stuff with him. Organized activities are just one thing we don't connect on.
