Henry - just the the Floridians a favor and don't talk about how much better things are in NYC. When I lived in Central FL that was the local's greatest complaint.

Two local sayings:
If Y HEART NY - Y DON'T U GO HOME
When I get old I'm going to move to Kentucky and drive slow with my turn signal on

Bob, I am still trying to get a house in Fl. So I can invite the last gang to stop by before or after their cruise.

My mom has taken priority, but we will be looking again in january.

My mom pronounced the name Curaçao today and it was so clearly Portuguese sounding I got me wondering how does a Dutch island get a Portuguese name? So here is some theories on Curaçao origins.
Curaao History | A short history of Curacao as it relates to monuments

Quote:
After the late-15th-century voyages of Christopher Columbus put the Caribbean, literally, on the maps, the area was wide open for European exploration. The Spanish soldier and explorer Alonso de Ojeda, joined by the Italian Amerigo Vespucci, set out on a voyage (1499 - 1500) to chart much of the South American coast and, in turn, several offshore islands in the area. One was Curacao. As an aside, disputed claims are par for the course when it comes to Vespucci. One of many stories has it that during his voyage with de Ojeda, a number of sailors on his ship came down with scurvy, whereupon he dropped off the hapless souls on Curacao on his way to South America.

On his return, he found the sailors alive and happy-presumably cured by the abundance of Vitamin C-laden fruit on the island. He then is said to have named the island Curacao, after an archaic Portuguese word for "cure". Of course, Vespucci was Italian, not Portuguese, and de Ojeda was Spanish, but these stories seem to take on a life of their own, and are often much more fun than the real story. A more convincing theory is that the Spaniards called the island Curazon, for "heart", and the mapmakers of the day converted the spelling to the Portuguese Curacao.

When I visit California maybe I can talk to him and tell him how safe flying is.

Kat another theory about Portuguese names in the Carbbean was that Columbus named them in Portuguese instead of Castilian ( what we call Spanish). Columbus lived in Portugal for many years and the house where he lived in Porto Santo (part of the Madeira archipelago) still exists. It is now a museum.

My first flight was in a DC3. We flew from Philadelphia to Louisville KY. courtesy of Uncle Sam. I was 19 years old at the time.

Since then I have lost count of how many flights I have taken.

Good Night Gang!

I had a very busy day today, productive, but busy. I wasn't sure I'd be able to stay up to watch "THE GAME" it turned out to be a nail biter and I had no problem staying up
I was a little surprised that the game was so close, but a win is a win is a win 25 ~ 22 Saints win.

We are only 78 posts away from page 500 Get busy ladies & gents, it can be done in just a couple of days. The chickens and cows are ready to party!

Good Morning Gang,

We are participating in the warm weather again. Fall will come soon.

I took my first flight at 5 or 6 and have flown frequently on business so I have no idea how many times I have flown. There were several years I averaged a trip a month. Now business travel is rare - I do much "virtual" travel through remote computer connections.

Good Morning Gang -

tried to send a posting earlier - and when I hit send I got the message that the server was down or something like that - what????

Kat - have been watching the weather for your area - will come prepared for just about anything!

TC - congrats on the game!

Think I'm going to have to make a "bucket list" of places that I want to visit - in looking at the map, I've been all over the mid-west, west, parts of the east coast but have never been to the northeast . The states I really want to visit are NY, Maine, Vermont and Tennessee. In 2011, dh wants to do a driving trip to Alaska with his sister and bil. Since he wants to see Alaska and doesn't want to cruise I guess this is the only way I'll get to see Alaska!

ok, better look productive here at work today - will post later to see if we're making headway to page 500.

Howdy all,

thought i would post this morning to do my part to get to page 500.
The last group I cruised with would post 35 to 50 pages daily on their roll call thread the last 3 months before the cruise. It was crazy. I couldnt even begin to keep up. I think we had 5 sets of 2500 pages by the cruise. That site makes you start over at 2500 pages and they did it 5 times.

We are cool and cloudy today but suppose to have a nice week and sunny by the weekend which will be nice. I think I am finally recovered from our camping trip. All the clean up after we got back really exhausted me.

Lets see, I was terrified of flying my entire life, then about 13 years ago while living in Oregon I sold my pizza business and took some of the money to take my family and grandaughter to Walt Disney World. So we had to fly. I was white knuckled all the way. Kids thought it was great. It was a large plane with 2 isles between the seats and i thought it was tiny !!
Coming back we took off during a thunder and lightning storm!!! I thought I would pass out!!
After that I took the train across the U.S, 3 times for vacations back east, while everyone else flew. Finally a few years back I started flying from coast to coast to see family.

Now I get a bit nervous but not terrified like I use to be.
My older neighbor told me not to worry, if you die up there in a plane you all the closer to the angels.
Not sure if that really helped me or not !!!

Kathy

Bahama, if you ever come to the Norheast, don't pass up Connecticut. I will give you some pointers.

Kathy, I don't know if this will make feel better or worse about flying, but I used to work in jet engine assembly.

TM - I don't think I'd pass up Connecticut, I'm sure if I were to come to the Northeast I'd try to see a bit of every state in the area. Of course, I'd probably be traveling alone as dh has no desire to travel to highly congested areas - thus our travels to the mountains all the time - get away from people!

We are so different, I like lots of people - he's a loner, would rather stay at home than go out and do stuff. Makes it hard sometimes for my job as I have to attend several social functions and I hate having to explain why he isn't with me.

One trip at a time, I will get to the Northeast since I want to see the fall foilage - it will happen!

I know this helped the cause........ (p. 500 here we come) will check back later .......

Bahama - maybe you can mix up the mountains and the cities in the NE - Poconos, Adirondacks, Berkshires, Green Mountains.

I think I've moved us to the next page?!!?? (Guess I didn't) Well, my day is about done, only 15 more minutes to go then I'm off for the day -

will travel to where I have an antique booth and see how business is doing - then home to to watch TV.

Have a great evening and we'll see where we're at tomorrow morning!!
