Good night everyone, time to get the flannel PJ's on tonight. Gong to be in the 20's here.

Thinking about booking an Alaskan cruise this August. Never been there before. Will have to do some research on different cruise lines and excursions.

Anybody here done an Alaskan cruise??

Kathy

Good Morning Gang,

My mother went back into the hospital yesterday (heard issues). She made sure to tell my brother that I should not change my vacation plans. Seems things are actually going pretty well, considering, so I probably won't change them. But this is why we buy travel insurance, not so much for ourselves but for others.

Kathy, you should check with our friend RobbH. I think he is an Alaska cruiser. At least he watches plenty leave Vancouver. We are planning an AK cruise in 2013 with friends celebrating their 40th.

Good Morning Gang!

Bob - hope your Mom is ok - will add her to my prayer list !

Well, it is a balmy -6 this a.m. with a wind chill of -22!! on the brighter side of weather forecasting it's suppose to start warming up tomorrow and they are predicting temps in the upper 40's and low 50's - it would feel like a heat wave around here!!

Only two more days this week and then the weekend - maybe I'll be looking a snow melt

have a great day everyone!

Good morning gang

Happy tequila thursday.

Bob, your mom will be in our prayere. I know how you feel because we have had quite a few issues with my mom.

Bahama, I have cruised to Alaska in August. The cuise actually started on july 28th. We had perfect weather ant it was a very memorable family. We enloyed it very much and plan todo it again in the near future.
We sailed with Celebrity ( my favorite cruiseline). We did a major tour in every port and had fun playing trivia games and interacting with other cruisers on sea days.

No matter which cruiseline you pick, I am sure that you will love Alaska.

Howdy gang,

Bob sending prayers and good thoughts for your moms quick recovery.

TM.
which excursions did you take in Alaska? There are so many that sound great. All the lines offer about the same excursions. I have been checking out private ones too. WOW there is alot to think about in choosing one.
It is fun to research. I appreciate peoples opinions on their experiences much more than just reading a tour sites thoughts on them.

32 this morning heading to 45 by late afternoon.

I think I will make some brownies today. I love to bake but I dont like what it does to the waistlines. I only make 12 so they disappear the first day pretty fast.

Enjoy your thursday everyone, stay warm and safe in all that ice and snow.

Kathy

Bob I'm sorry to hear about your mom I hope she gets well soon.

Kathy I have been to Alaska, like TM I was also on Celebrity Infinity. I don't love Celebrity the way TM does in fact I probably won't ever cruise with them again. The line is to laid back for me I want fun and activites. Different stokes for different folks. I agree with TM Alaska was wonderful.

We left out of San Francisco are ports were Icy Strait point, Vancouver, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Victoria. We did Butchart Garden gardens in Victoria it was a beautiful place I would go again in a heartbeat. Ketchikan we did the crab fishing and crab feed. It was tasty. In Skagway we did the White Pass railroad ride and the Dog sled camp excusion. I loved the Dog Sled camp we got to play with the puppies. I don't remember what we did in Juneau, maybe walked around and shopped. Vancouver we wandered around. They have a stock market I would have loved to see, but it was Canadain holiday so the stock market was closed. We went end of May and had great weather which was not normal for that time of year.

On the Alaska cruise, we went on a whale watch in Juneau. We saw eagles, sea lions and bears as well as the whales. Aterward they had a salmon babe for us.
There is plenty to do anywhere you go in Alaska.

Kathy, some of the tours that we did lasted over eight hours, so it good to consider the ship's excursions.
The white rail tour that we did included visiting the replica of a mining camp, and we even had a chance to pan for gold. And afterward we had salmon cooked on a open fire.

I do want to tell you that an Alaska cruise is a lot different than a warm weather cruise. It too cold to dance on the Lido deck at night like yhey do in the Caribbean.
Also people don't do as much in the lounges or other intertainment venues because the tours keep you quite busy and by the time you get back to the ship, you have had a full day.

Thats ok, my hubby doesnt like to dance. I only got him on a dance floor once on our 30th anniversary for 3 minutes. He does like to listen to live music though. I just have to grab some poor crew member and step on his feet.

I did notice that the ships are in port much longer in Alaska than the tropical ports. Sounds good to me. I already have warm clothes and i know to wear them in layers for warmth.

I am looking forward to something different after 21 eastern caribbean and western mexican itenaries.

Good night all,

Kathy

Good Morning Gang,

Happy Open Bar/Bra Friday.

Thanks for your prayers. Mom is doing better. They want to keep her until the pneumonia clears and then replace her "device". We spoke to the "electrician" yesterday and that was his take anyway. The Last Gang is the best.

I've got to put in a few hours of work this AM then it is time to pack and go. We'll probably stop at the hospital on the way out.

I hope you all enjoy your virtual. I look forward to seeing what Kat digs up when we get back.

Yes the ships are in port longer and it is a totally different experience from a caribbean cruise.
I did not find the weather that cold, except when we visited the Hubbard Glacier.

We never needed the heavy clothes that we need for the Ct. winters.

I found some pictures from my Alaksan cruise.
This is from the crab excusion. There were no crabs in the pot, but there was this guy.

This was near the hubbard Glaicer. Can you spot the lumber jack in this picture?

This is one of the puppies from the dog sled camp. Isn't he cute.

I got to hold one too.

This was the ride in the wheeled cart.

It's so peaceful there.

Bob thats great that your mom is doing a lot better. Now you can go, relax and enjoy your cruise.

TM, I hope we are as lucky with the weather as you were. We both want to see Alaska but due to arthritis the cold can be painful. So we will hope for the best but pack for the worst.

Kat,
those are great photos. If I saw correctly the lumber jack was on the left towards the lower half of the page. Its amazing how mother nature can make a mountain that looks like a persons face. Thanks for psoting the photos, they get me even more excited to go and visit.

But for now i need to pack for our trip to the coast for the concert tonight. Have an awesome weekend gang,

Kathy
