I got a hardback book today that I'm going to read. Now to find my glasses. One thing about the kindle...I don't have to have my glasses.

Kindles cause bookstores to go out of business . Authors cannot autograph a kindle .The days of book signings are nearly gone .

I read both real books and the kindle. Did not think I'd like it until my brother bought me one. I know what you mean Henry about bookstores. The ebook trade will close doors for some people and open some for others. I ride the fence on the whole subject...but change is here...regardless.

I know that ,Moraine . My small town of 25,000 people had one book store and one used book store ,both are closed due to nooks and kindles .

Heading to the home town today and again tomorrow. Family is gathering to bury the ashes of my uncle who passed last December. It will be an "interesting time".

Henry - for someone like me who is "hard of seeing" a Kindle can be a very handy device so I can increase the font size. Also read four books plus the scriptures (not all of them) while on vacation all using one device. All my books were classics and out of copyright. I don't think I took any food out of Charles Dicken's family's mouths.

We had a nice day. We spent the afternoon at the beach ( Daytona ).

Tomorrow we will going to a picnic at the Portuguese Club.

We got together with friends that we've known since 1969 . We last saw them 2 months ago .I was amazed to see that my friend David shaved off his beard .He seemingly had it forever .Perhaps that is the norm these days for guy who have beards to shave them off

Are you sure it's Kindles that are killing independent book stores and not Amazon? Long before e:reading became popular we lost most of our small book stores when the Mega Stores opened.

That would be the same thing since it's full name is Amazon Kindle. So first Amazon took over book sells. Then they created the product the will eliminate books altogether. Huh maybe I should see if Amazon stock is at a good share price. They seem like a smart company.

I was meaning that they're a massive online discounter of paper books. My reference was to before e:books were even popular. Small town book stores just can't compete with the likes of Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble.

Good Morning Gang,
Had a pretty good time with family even for a somewhat somber even. A cousin shared that our 7th Great Grand Father is the Grand Father of George Washington. George's mother was a half-sister to or 6th GGF making him the cousin of out 5th GGF and ultimately our 1st cousin 7 times removed. I'm not expecting any kudos from Mr. Vernon. George's grandma was a second wife to my 7GGF. His first wife was the daughter of the Lord Mayor of London, but his father (my 8GGF) left England after his lands were seized during the interregnum of Cromwell.
