Default Simple Geography Quiz

I'll even make it "multiple guess," but no cheating by looking at maps or other references. I'll post the correct answers in a few days.

1. A ship exits the western terminus of the Panama Canal. On which body of water is it sailing? (a) Atlantic Ocean (b) Gulf of Panama (c) Gulf of Mexico (d) Pacific Ocean (e) Caribbean Sea

2. An airplane flies due west from Roma, Italy. To which Atlantic port city does it come? (a) Portland, Maine (b) Providence, Rhode Island (c) Norfolk, Virginia (d) Charleston, South Carolina (e) Jacksonville, Florida

3. Which of the following cities is furthest west? (a) Toronto, Ontario (b) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (c) Jacksonville, Florida (d) Lima, Peru (e) Santiago, Chile

4. Which of the following cities is furthest east? (a) Spokane, Washington (b) Bend, Oregon (c) Reno, Nevada (d) Bakersfield, California (e) San Diego, California

5. An airplane flies due east from San Diego, California. Nearest which East Coast port city does it leave the United States? (a) Miami, Florida (b) Melbourne, Florida (c) Jacksonville, Florida (d) Charleston, South Carolina (e) Wilmington, North Carolina

Good luck!

Norm.

Sorry Norm, but I was never any good at geography and I would definitely have to cheat and look at a map to answer most of these questions.

Because I've been through the Panama Canal, I know how it is layed out. So for the first one I'm going with:

1. (e)Caribbean Sea

2. (d) Charleston, South Carolina?

3. (d) Lima, Peru?

4. (c) Reno, Nevada?

5. (c) Jacksonville, Florida?

(e) Caribbean Sea. The Ithsmus of Panama is a sideways "S" with the canal cut through the middle on a northwest-southeast axis. Score one point for"samngeo" on this one!

(b) Providence, Rhode Island. Europe is much further north than most of us think!

(e) San Diego, California. The California coastline curves eastward a lot more than many of us think as it goes from north to south.

(d) Charleston, South Carolina. The entire state of California is further north than the entire state of Florida.

I mentally completed the exercise before looking and scored a... ZERO!

The answer is correct Norm, as are all your facts, except I think that you meant to say that South America is further *EAST* than Jacksonville.
