Just read this story very sad I feel sorry for everyone involed. I also read some of the comments about this terrible accident alot of anticruising opions expressed!
This is definitely a case of gross negligence by the boat operator. There is no way that the prop should have been engaged when someone was in the water.
It is not the fault of Holland America and I doubt there will be any compensation from the tour operator nor Holland America. It isn't easy to sue a company in another country. Especially a country like Belize.
My heart goes out to this woman and her family. A sad day.
Take care,
Mike

OMG, what a horrible accident! I also went there snorkeling through a ship excursion. Hard to believe that something like this happened, although, there were no details as to what exactly happened.
I was on the Ryndam, when this tragedy occurred.
The rumor afterwards, started by guess who, was that the victim had to
have only 10 stitches. Later, a member of our group was told by their clergy
that she had died.
I've never seen a shark in the ocean, snorkeling, swimming, or hanging out on three different Hawaiian islands over the years. You're in considerably more danger if you have been spearfishing, and are dragging a bouquet of bleeding fish behind you.
