We finally begin our cruise on 4/1. Somewhere on this message board there was information about traveler's checks vs. cash vs. credit card but I can't find it right now. I recall credit cards can be used for more major purchases usually on the islands but don't remember the recommendation regarding the use of traveler's checks. On board, the super charge card (or whatever you call it) will be used for alcoholic beverages and what else?? Trying to get an idea of how much cash to bring. I remember the tip about bringing lots of small bills for tipping some folks along the way. Thanks for any help.
Depending upon how much you shop makes all the differance in the amount of cash you bring. We always bring a couple hundred in cash for tips and small stuff and use the cc for anything major. The ships sail & sign cards we have put on the credit card as well. In addition to that you may wish to bring another couple of hundred to make purchases ashore. This can be either cash or Travelers Checks. You can cash the checks at the pursers office.
Thanks for your response Jim. That info was helpful. It is good to know we can cash Traveler's checks at the Purser's Office. That helps alleviate the concern with carrying too much cash. Doesn't seem like a big deal but it is important that we have a solid plan regarding our credit card, cash, or traveler's checks. Thanks.
