Barb.. a very fair question, and I'll try to think up something..
Seriously.. I thought the food and service on Golden on our New Year's cruise was very good. Think I rated food about a 7 out of 10, and service a 9.
The thing I didn't like about the ship, or her sister the Grand, was the layout. Think they overdid trying to create intimate spaces, and ended up making a big ship feel small, and in some areas crowded.
However, despite that, we had a great time on Golden with our CruiseMates group.
That said.. originally our Thanksgiving cruise was set to be on the NCL Sun. However at the end of May we found out NCL had prematurely pulled our group space on her, as the ship was selling out well in advance. Without cabins to offer, it would have been hard to do a group, so a difficult decision was made to "jump ship".
The Golden space was being offered at superb pricing, so that's where we jumped to. I am actually one of the few who don't seem to like the Grand/Golden layouts, so I thought... who am I to say.
I do think this time I'll give PC dining a chance. Many people seem to rave about it, so how can I say I don't like it, until I give it a try.
Hope that explains it for you.
