Default tHE BEST PLANS

Wouldn't you know it. We just heard that our son's deployment to Afghanistan has been moved up to "sometime in the last 2 weeks of february" Not that we him to go early, but it would be a shame if we missed the first week of the cruise and had to meet everyone at the first port.He was supposed to leave "in the spring" Good old Army....you can never make plans!!
See you sooner or later

Default Marianne:

Wow. That is seriously sad news. Any chance you can hang on for another month and see if the Army changes the schedule (yet again)? I certainly understand and wish you both and your son the best!

Default We're not giving up

We are still hoping to make the farewell and the cruise. His unit hasn't given any date yet...just 4-6 weeks. I'll just take it one day at a time m

Marianne... sorry to hear it's all become complicated. We certainly do wish your son well on his deployment, and thank him so much for his service!

Default I'm hanging!!

Being a CAV(alry)MOM, I am getting used to having monkey wrenches thrown into my plans, although this is one of the most inconvenient ones. the deployment was supposed to be mid spring, but it got moved up just a few days ago. The Army still hasn't said when they're leaving, but speaking in code over the phone, it should be within days of my birthday. If that is accurate, we should be able to make it to the ship.

I am so glad that Chris will be retiring within a year of his return home. This old girl has gone through enough deployments!
I am hoping we can have a family reunion on a ship when he comes home.
Now, if I could only get a firm date for his leaving, my BP might go down a little!
Toodles!!
Marianne

Hey, beenie weenie....where are you?

Marianne and Dirk: Here's hoping the Army confirms a date for your son's deployment. The waiting has got to be frustrating for you and your son!

This will be our first trip to Hawaii and boy, are we excited! I'm glued to the computer when not at work .... trying to do as much research on the ports. I don't want to miss a thing. lol

Indeed, the countdown clock is getting shorter and shorter, and I'm certainly beginning to get excited.

Been busy entertaining different friends coming to our winter home in Scottsdale, Az. and enjoying the great weather, but the upcoming cruise is still in the forefront of our mind.

Funny... I just found out today that I'm going to be sailing this exact itinerary a month later on the Crystal Symphony..to cover their new golf cruise program.

Not too much better than getting to cruise to Hawaii twice in such a short span.

Almost packed here. Just got home Saturday from a great cruise so as I did laundry I just re-packed. Still have to add some clothes since this is a longer one but basically we are almost ready. Mentally, we have been ready for a while. Kuki, I am envious of your two HI trips. If I knew anything about golf or writing I would offer to help.

Kuki. House Without a Key sounds lovely. We would take a taxi I'm guessing? Just curious, is the show you speak of a luau type show or something else? I will talk to my party & let you know about reservations. Really sounds wonderful! Thanks, Cindy

It's not a luau. They feature acts playing Hawaiian music, with the sunset as their background. It's quite lovely. (think Do Ho ish )

Everyone would have to get there on their own, via taxi or rental cars. It's right along the downtown portion of Waikiki Beach.

This sounds like you have done the gift exchange before. I didn't see where anyone asked, so I will. Do we take what we bought and wrap it, leave it in a bag, or just carry it in our hand? Would like to know. Thanks, Diane

Hi Diane,
Yes you are correct we have done this before. I always put mine in a gift bag but have seen others wrap theirs so whichever works for you will be fine. If you're flying wrapping isn't the best idea unless you have it in your checked bags. TSA doesn't like wrapped gifts. Hope this helps. We will see you soon and look forward to meeting you. Aloha

Of those of of you pre-cruising in LA the night before... I'm wondering if I could get a volunteer....

Nancy is looking to send a box of tote bags (for everyone in the group) to a San Pedro Hotel. So hoping one of you can accept the delivery and bring it to the ship with you?

Gee, funny that you should ask - I was going to ask you if there was anything we could do. I'd be happy to accept delivery. Why not send it to my home instead (since we're driving down there)? That way there wouldn't be any kind of disconnect with Doubletree.

Thanks so much Shar. That's very sweet. I'll pass that on to Nancy, and she can ship directly to you, as she'd have your address.

We just booked a whale watching excursion in Maui through the ship. Has anyone taken this one before? Would you recommend it?
