Booking shore excursions ... post-cruise packages

Does anyone know if shore excursions can be booked ahead of time? Also, are the excursions included with the post- or pre-cruise package worth the expense of the package? It's our first Crystal cruise so any information that anyone feels we ought to know would be most welcome.

I was also looking into this and after calling Crystal directly was told that shore excursions can be booked on board and not ahead of time. We are also going on our first cruise in two days to Alaska. Where are you going?

Hi, Marina. We're going on the Harmony on November 7 through the Panama Canal. We're getting really excited about it. You must be So excited right now! Have a wonderful time and, please, when you return, let us know how Crystal was, how the Harmony was and how your trip was!

The only time you can pre-book Crystal shore excursions is when Crystal sends out their documents and they have a special excursion offered that requires a lot of pre-planning. For example, when we were on the world cruise, we had to pre-book tours to the Taj Mahal, Cambodia and China. These pre-booked tours are usually those that involve an overnight in a hotel.
