Default Tuxedo?

My wife and I are sailing on the QE2 from Southampton to Ft Lauderdale. I was planning on bringing a couple black (nice) suits to wear for the formal eve's in the grill rooms - I have read (and heard) many different variations on just how many people where tux's vs. suits - do I need to go pick up a tuxedo to be up to standard - or will the black suits work just fine? Any thoughts would be welcomed!
Thanks.

I recommend that you get a Tuxedo especially if you are in a Grill Cabin. QE2 crossings are even more Formal than regular cruises. You will feel out of place in just a black suit. Even when you have an "Optional" night, you can wear your tuxedo. There is a self service laundry on the ship where you can wash out a shirt but I still recommend taking two tuxedo shirts. Poly/cotton mixes require less work than 100% cotton.
Hope this helps. Have a great time.
We will be sailing on the Volendam the day you arrive in Ft. Lauderdale.

I would strongly suggest that you invest in a tux. I sailed last year on the QE 2 for 12 night, we had about 5 or 6 formal nights. We were in the Mauratania restaurant or "Steerage" and found that 90% wore tuxes. I purchased tux, and found it was a good investment. Most gentleman who did not wear them dinned in the Lido on the formal nights. On informal nights all gentleman wore jackets in all restaurants, except the Lido for the early seating.
I loved this ship it was my first cruise and I would definitely do it again. We met a couple who were in the Queens Gill and all of the gentleman wore tuxes on formal nights in there dinning room.
Enjoy the cruise.

Ditto to the tux !!! I have spent 31 days on this ship total and a tux will be a good investment...always appropriate especially in the grill !!!

Have fun !!!!!!!!
