Default Caronia vs. Mauretania Cabins

My first time here; excellent BBS site!

I am considering my first cruise on the QE2 for May, 2003 (NY - Southampton) and am curious regarding the qualitative distinctions between the Caronia and Mauretania cabins. I have scoped out an "M2" cabin and am wondering about the cost and value of upgrading to a Caronia room.

Does anyone have any experiences with either/both cabins? Also, how is the overall journey comfort level, ala motion discomfort?

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards,

Upgrade to Caronia! It is worth every penny. You'll have a nicer cabin and a nicer restuarant. I origiannly booked M, then upgraded to C, and was very glad I did (May 2002). I am going again in 2 weeks and although I had the chance to go Queen's Grill, after my great C cabin and Caronia Resturant, I stayed in C!

The choice has as much to do about the restaurants as the cabin. Any cabin that is relatively amidships is preferable to one fore or aft. A lower deck does not matter much as it is stable from One on down to Five.

Marc / TWS:

Thanks much for your insights!! I have pretty much settled on a Caronia class cabin, from your input and others. Marc: Let me know how your trip goes :-)

Hmmm, does the Cunard virtual tour show them?

They are wood paneled, have closets, nice bath rooms with tubs. They have either one or two portholes. I had a double in December (although I stayed in it single). It had a hallway coming into it, a bath off the hall, and the main cabin was about 9 x 12 with two closets. It had two portholes, two single beds, a tv, a chair (maybe two chairs?), the double bureau was between the beds. beleive me, it was more than sufficient!

There are about five single Caronia cabins on the boat and I had one last may. Also very nice. Only one porthole, but in wa way, I perfered it to the double.

Marc

Which CA grade single did you travel in? I have booked a CA grade 2122 cabin for the 17.4 crossing & wonder if you have any info on this cabin? Do the CA cabins have 'new' style marble bathrooms as in QG grade cabins?

You mentioned that you had a double for single occupancy. Were you upgraded from a CA grade single and was this on a guarantee basis?

Any info re the above would be much appreciated.

Thx & Rgs

Richard
