Just returned from QE2 "Splendour of the Canaries" cruise.
QE2 lived up to all expectations of course. Food in Lido and entertanment has improved since my transatlantic in May 02. Service in Mauretainia improved and is now very good but food not quite as good as last year. Still very acceptable and has taken a slightly more "American" style to the cooking.
Caronia restaurant seems to have had some problems with service and it could take a long time to complete a meal. This is fine if you like to eat early and are not in a hurry to catch the shows.
Britannia grill seemed very good, it is my recomendation.
I was in the Queens grill but unfortunately not to eat. I think the Princess & Britannia are nicer looking rooms and slightly more lively than the more formal Queens Grill.
Afternoon tea was a huge improvement on last year and I now give it nine marks out of ten.
The ship seems to have a bit more noise and vibration than last year but this may be partly because we were travelling much slower, as slow as 16 knots on the way south. She got smother the faster we went. The max on the trip was about 26knots, not quite transat speeds.
My next trip may be a transat later this year, but as I am booked on QM2 next year I may need to change these plans. Do I really need three cruises a year?
