Wait List for Cabins

I've decided to go on the Independence Day 3-day cruise, except that the lowest price cabin categories are all filled up. Cunard said that I could place myself on a wait list for the desired cabin categories, after posting a refundable $500 deposit.

Have people had any luck getting off wait lists? I assume the wait lists are first-come, first-served?

I was wait listed for the Maiden Voyage of QM2 and was successful. You can call up Cunard any time and they will tell you where abouts you are on the wait list. I am also wait listed for the Maiden voyage of Queen Victoria.
