Default qty cabins

We have a gty cabin for the Jan 29 cruise on the QM2. We have already received the tickets and so forth, but they are still marked "gty." Can anyone tell me when we will receive our actual cabin assignment?

Our experience from 11/04 was that with the tickets were the luggage tags with our stateroom number. Did you receive any luggage tags?

Yes we received luggage tags, but even these were marked qty. My husband keeps saying that they have a broom closet reserved just for us.

I think the GTY is short for Gaurantee.

It could mean you will get a higher grade than the one you have paid for.

Don't worry, there are no bad cabins on QM2. Also as they don't have enough cabins for the crew many of the lower grade, and hence less favourable, cabins get used for them anyway.

Your tickets were produced prior to a cabin being assinged. Contact your travel agent or call cunard directly to ask for your cabin #.

The broom closet is located on deck 8 near the pool! We were upgraded to a B6 category on deck 8 last November and it was wonderful. So much so that we have reserved a cabin on deck 8 for the 5/10/05 sailing. I would call Cunard to find your cabin number. How will they transport your luggage without a specific cabin number on the tag? Unless they just mark it "Broom Closet !" Have a wonderful trip.

Best regards,

Ken Thomas

Thanks for your input everyone. I will call Cunard on Monday. About the lugguge, I guess I thought they would let us know at check-in. Stupid really, but my last cruise was pre-very zealous security, you just left the luggage with the stevadores on the dock in New York and they became the ships problem. Good old days.

I've had gty cabins on QE2 where I didn't find out the cabin number until I checked in. The luggage people always get the GTYs sorted out pretty quickly. BTW, I've always ended up in a higher category than I booked when I've gotten a GTY. Good luck.

Ken Thomas, was your B-6 cabin an outside with the large window (not porthole) and was it larger (longer) than the balcony rooms? Do you remember the cabin #? We're looking at those for a cruise.
Thanks,
Rick

Hello Rick,

We were in cabin 8018. We had the first cabin with a lifeboat in front. We could look right for a partial view and a great view of the bridge. Based on the experience we have booked cabin 8016 for the 5/10/05 cruise. It is the first cabin without a lifeboat in front of the balcony, yet it is a B6 category. If you do not have a deckplan go to the website www.DeluxeCruises.com. The lifeboats are not shown in the correct position. They were moved back from what is shown on the deckplan.

Best regards,

Ken Thomas

Sara P,

There is a roll call going for the 1/29 sailing on cruisecritic.com. Quite a number of us going on this cruise it would seem.

I also booked a sa guarantee and was upgraded to a hull balcony cabin on deck five from an inside cabin. Let us know how your guarantee worked out for you.

Hi,
I called Cunard this morning and discovered that we are in 12019 which is a D2. This is a nice improvement from a D6 or my husband's broom closet scenario.
