Travel from London to Southampton

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with travel from London to Southampton. We are thinking of spending a few days in London before heading to SH. What are the various ways to travel, and the distance. Thanks

It depends where in London you intend to stay, but a National Express coach would take about two hours. There are also trains and of course taxis and private hire. Do plan to arrive at Southampton docks in plenty of time, though, as you may well get caught up in traffic jams.

If you care to post your question also on the Destinations board, under Europe you may get more information.

Hope this helps a little.

Trains leave from Waterloo every 15 minutes and take about 75 minutes for the 70 miles. Two an hour are expresses. A taxi from Southampton Central costs about four pounds. See Southwest Trains website for times/fares and res. are not necessary. Board third carriage from rear to be near Way Out to get a jump on the taxi queue

National Express (less expensive and less comfortable) coaches depart from Victoria Coach Station and take about two hours. Taxi fare about the same. See National Express website. Res. required.

One more thought Kevin,

Make certain that you know which berth your ship is leaving from, Cunard will use dock gate 4 / QEII terminal, whereas P&O/Princess & smaller lines use Dock gate 10, the smaller lines are in berth 101 / City Terminal, whereas the larger ships use berth 105 / Mayflower Terminal.

If multiple ships are in though, the berths often change.

Closer to the time, checkout http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/cruise_ship.asp
it lists all the provisional cruise line movements & is 99% correct.#

Hope this helps, and have a fantastic time.
