Transportation between ships

We have booked QM2 from New York to Southampton England arriving on Sept 10th, 2007 at 6:00 a.m.and will board Jewel of the Seas in Harwich England that same day, leaving at 5:00 P.M. Does anyone know the best way to get from Southampton to Harwich . Has anyone done this before and if so, what problems if any did you encounter . Thank you

Hi there, glad to see that your nick implies that you like to have adventures, this certainly isn't an easy one. However here's what we've found ....

Train via London : £46 per person one way plus underground ticket.

SOUTHAMPTON CENTRAL dep 09:25 LONDON WATERLOO arr 10:52
The take the Underground to STRATFORD (London) 23 minutes
STRATFORD (London) dep 12:09 MANNINGTREE arr 13:20
MANNINGTREE dep 13:26 HARWICH TOWN arr 13:47

London Underground pdf at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/pdfdocs/colourmap.pdf
Waterloo is top of square E5, Stratford is middle of C8, note though they are connected by the silver line (Waterloo & City Line), this

is closed on Sundays. Best bet, North on the Black (Northern) line to Tottenham Court Road, then East on the red (Central) line.


Private Hire Cab :

171 miles, all the way round the M25, could be around 3 hours - negotiate price ahead of the journey if you can.


Have you checked if Royal Caribbean are providing any sort of coach pick up? If they are collecting from London Victoria Coach Station, then you can get there from Southampton in 3 hours, depart Southampton 09:30 arrive 12:20 - prices from £1 if booked online http://www.nationalexpress.com. Slightly later one is faster, leave 10:30 arrive 13:05.

We'll try & think of other ideas, but if you want more info about the options, please feel free to ask.

Thank you. We were in London a few years ago and really enjoyed our stay. I sincerely appreciate your help. I'll check out the web site you mentioned and map out our way to see if it works for us. We have time to plan well..must consider the amount of luggage..etc.. Thank you again.

Just a couple of things I'd like to add to help.

The train route quoted is quite correct, but make sure that you get off the train at Harwich International (port), arrival is a few minutes earlier than Harwich Town.

(Nb. You can take the train from London Liverpool Street instead of Straford - if you like)

If going by car, I'd make sure that you left a lot longer than 3 hours. More like 4.5 hours. Even though the Sunday traffic will be lighter, it's still summer time and all it needs is an accident on the M25 and things go way wrong and the ability to divert to another route takes as long as waiting for the hold-up to clear(!!!!). Still, it's interesting to do a 2/3 circumnavigation of the M25!!! )
