The noise level from the atrium is not a problem. You can't hear a thing. My wife and I had an atrium cabin for a cruise on the QM2 two years ago. The issue with the atrium cabin is that we found the artium window to not be worth the additional money paid over a similar sized interior cabin.
The atrium window is a fairly small window. We were expecting a far bigger window, maybe even a floor to ceiling window based on early drawings. (We made reservations for that cruise even before the ship was launched.) The only thing you can see from an atrium window are the other atrium windows on the other side of the atrium. They are high above the Grand Lobby and if I recall correctly, you can hardly see the Grand Lobby from these windows.
For a small amount more over the cost of an atrium cabin, I would suggest an Oceanview cabin (C1-C4). For a C4 you can get a larger cabin for just a very small increase over the cost of an atruim cabin.
We recently went on the QM II's Labor Day trip and got an interior cabin (D7). It was the same size as an atrium cabin, but without paying a lot more money for a relatively useless window that we wound up trying to keep shuttered most of the time.
