Default How choppy is the ocean in May or June

I am thinking of going to England in April 30, from NYC or stay with my June departure. How choppy are the seas?? I take Amtrak a lot and am used to the back and forth of the train cars, but should I bring sea sickness medication ahead of time???
Your thoughts???

I sailed on QM2 NYC - Southampton departing 15th. April last year, and although the waves looked quite big (to my untrained eyes), there was no sense of motion on the ship. I have also done a transatlantic on QE2 in August and it was like a millpond, but sea conditions can vary massively at any time of the year.

I've been on transatlantic trips (QE2 and freighters) many times, and usually it was calmer later in the year (June/July), but I've also had a very choppy crossing on a freighter in June one year (wind force 11), so you never know... In general I'd say early summer is calmer than spring, though. Good luck, Sylvia

Magnificently unpredictable weather, but enjoy it, whatever the conditions.

tHE QM2 has such effective stabilizers that you will think you are in a hotel -unless you look out the windows !

QM2 is a very stable ship. We were in a Force 10 at the end of June and most of the passengers were out and about and many were sitting by the picture windows watching the sea crash against the ship.

However, any ship can move about. To a large extent, it depends upon the direction of the winds and waves in relation to the direction of the ship. If they can, the crew will try to maneouver the ship so that the wind and waves are coming from the side as this tends to steady the ship. The stablizers and the balcony cabins, which act as stay sails, minimize the rolling. If they have to cut through the waves, that is when most people will feel the motion (this is known as "pitching"). The stablizers don't have much effect on pitching.
