Hi, when we booked the Apr/30/07 crossing in Nov. last year, the TA encouraged us to book the "guarantee" instead of selecting a stateroom by ourselves (same fare - C3). She said there might be a chance of being upgrade. As a newbie to Cunard, that sounds like a good deal to us. Well, not until later I found out our fare could've been a bit less with that. I just don't know the difference between selecting our own room and being assigned.
Can we still select our room? What's the chance of being upgrade should we select our room first? Anyhow, in our case, does anyone know with a guarantee booking, when will we know our assigned stateroom regardless upgrade or not? Thanks.
On my first t/a I booked an inside guarantee and was upgraded from a D7 to a D2. Meaning I kept the inside but went up to deck 11. If you're prone to motion sickness this isn't a good thing, fortunately movement doesn't bother me. I did not get the assignment until the week before I sailed. Because I'm familiar with the ship I now book a specific cabin and specify no upgrade. I like having control of where I am and have learned what areas of the ship are more convenient for me. There never seems to be any rhyme or reason as to whom the upgrade fairy will visit. Good luck.
