Yes, it is a shame. At first, I was desperate to book a cruise during her farewell season but have changed my mind, as I don't know if the atmosphere would be the same as we've enjoyed previously, so on balance I think I would rather remember her as she was. Might try to get to Southampton to see her off to Dubai, though!

I am devastated. I was hoping to one day do a World Cruise on her. There is just something about the ambience of the QE2, the fact that she is so elegant and so smoker-friendly. I really enjoyed my six days aboard her a few months ago ... and I was hoping to have the opportunity to repeat the experience.

Don't get me wrong. I love my cruises on HAL. But there was just something about the QE2 ... something I never expected to find aboard her. I only booked the QE2 transatlantic because I needed transportation home from my Veendam cruise ... as an alternative to flying. I never expected to truly enjoy the sailing. I just enjoyed the prospect of not having to fly transatlantic. Well, almost as soon as I was onboard, I fell in love with the ship. Our cabin wasn't the nicest ... but then we didn't book the nicest. We just wanted something in the Caronia class.

Those folks in Dubai are lucky. It's just a shame they are planning to just dock her and turn her into a luxury hotel. Somehow that doesn't seem like a fitting end to such a grand lady. I only wish they would continue to sail her ... even if it were just around Dubai.

Blue skies ...

My partner and I were half expecting QE2 to go out of service in 2010 and so were planning a Queen Victoria cruise for 2008. However, with last week's announcement, we have booked a cruise to Iceland and Norway in July/August 08.

Our travel agent told me that the last Southampton-Southampton sold out within a day of the announcement and the cruise being advertised as such and for the last week, they have been rushed off their feet with people booking. I started our booking with trying to get a C1 cabin, number 3131, which we've been in before, but very quickly it became obvious there wasn't much left, even 13 months in advance. I don't think the atmosphere will suffer if the ship is full. I think people will make the most of it.
