Default Entertaiment

How good is the entertainment on Cunard ships?

As with all entertainment, it really does come down to individual taste so it's a little unfair for an individual to say how 'good' it is. Having said that I don't expect that anyone has ever come away declaring "Wow, that was the best enetertainment I have ever seen"

On a typical evening you will have various different types of live music from 'big' band, to piano, to jazz, karaoko, to string quartets around the ship.
You will also have EITHER a run of the mill guest entertainer or a prduction show, usually based around the dance troupe with the empahasis being on 'elegance'.

During the daytime you will have guest speakers, which I have to say ARE some of the best we have seen, plus arts classes, deck games, quizzes & so on.

Do we enjoy the entertainment - Mostly
Would we miss it if it was not there - Possibly
Would we still cruise Cunard if the was no entertainment - Probably.

My first cruise was on a Cunard ship and there was no entertainment. The closest thing was a movie .
On board they had shuffleboard ,skeet shooting and a pool.

A pleasure, hope you found it helpful, are you thinking of giving Cunard a go? The reason I ask is that QE & QV are very different beasts to the more traditional QM2, so if you have any follow up questions, please feel free to shout

Alan.

Entertainment can be hit or miss. Sometimes the enrichment lecturers are fascinating and you can be really busy attending lectures and other times none of personal interest. Evening entertainment again can be hit or miss. It all depends on your tastes. For regulars there are repeats with the Cunard singers an dancers. Some of the shows have been done for years and after several viewings don't appeal. There is generally a movie also but again it will depend if it is one you want to see.
The nice thing you can do as little or as much as you choose.

Thanks again for the info.

Some friends of mine want to a Cunard cruise but they were under the impression that there was not much to do on the Cunard ships.

The only issue we really had with that was if you didn't want to go & see the show/entertainer in the theatre & weren't into ballroom dancing, then there was a gap in the evening as there was no second cabaret act, so instead we'd relax with a drink (the good news is that they don't make you feel like you have to buy a drink) in one of the atrium bars, listen to the live music & watch the world & it's people pass by until the nightclub (or Crow's Nest) got going.
Again I would say that this option applies mainly to QE/QV, but QM2 wins out with it's 3D movie/Planetarium/Cinema.

Of course you don't have the zip wires, street parades, wave rider etc. etc. etc. (and that is a long list of etc.s) but the daytime entertainment & quizzes / pub games are pretty much on par with any more traditional line.

have a great day,
Alan.

In the last five years Cunard has really upped the entertainment. It tends to be very British in influence - but that have very big casts and also plenty of special events.

They have had musical artists like James Taylor and Sting, even Roger Daltrey. But they also feature RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts).

Their cabaret shows tends to be musical tributes to Brit culture. Their solo artists are more likely to be classical than comedy, but it is a mistake to say they have no or little entertainment. The Queen Vic has the largest number of entertainers on board (by my casual count) of almost any ship I can name.
