Default Renassaince Cruise to Tahiti

We are thinking of booking on Ren lines for their 10 day Tahiti cruise. Can't seem to find out if they anchor our on the islands or actually dock,

My partner uses a scooter although he can walk a little. We have used tenders successfully as long as the access isn't too rocking and rolling. On one HAL cruise, the tender was bouncing around so much, he couldn't get on it.

Any comments in general about REN cruise and access would be appreciated.

We are celebrating his 70th on this cruise!

My wife and I along with Robocop and his wife went on this cruise last February. It can be described in one word. Awesome.

You will dock at Papeete and Raitea. You will tender at Huahine, Moorea and Bora Bora. The harbors that the ships anchor in are well protected so there is little movement of the tender when boarding. The tender area on the R4 will easily accomodate someone who has trouble walking. Also the docs that the tenders go to on the islands are wide, flat and easily accessable. The ship has very good excursions and car rental is available and affordable on all of the islands. Daily rental will run you about $75/day. Avis and Eurocar both rent on the islands but you should make reservations in advance.

There is also plenty of room on the tenders to handle the scooter also.

The Ren ships are very nice. The standard balcony cabins are about the nicest I have seen. Food is good to excellent and service is equal. The size of the ship is a nice plus. At just over 600 passengers it is big enough to have the big ship ammenities but small enough to allow easy access to anywhere from anywhere on the ship.

The casino is a quite small but it has about the most friendly dealers and staff anywhere on the high seas.

The R class ships have two specialty restaurants. The Grill, which is like a Chicago style steakhouse and the Italian, who's name describes it. Both of these restaurants are wonderful. I most enjoyed the meals in the Italian restaurant. Make sure you make your reservations early in the cruise because they fill up fast.

The ships also have a nice fitness and spa area. There is a spa deck with a thalassotherapy pool. There is a $15 pp/day charge for this but in my opinion it was well worth it. It faces forward at the front of the ship and while you are sitting in the thalasso you are treated to some of the best sights of the islands. We enjoyed this view on a few evenings when we were leaving port on one of the islands.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise and enjoy the beautiful R class ships and the even more beautiful islands.

Be careful if you need an accessible cabin (bathroom). Only the newest Renaissance ship has any. The original 4 have NO handicapped accessible cabins, so we have avoided the newest one too until we hear that they have sufficiently trained their staff and that the cabins are really accessible.

Thanks for your reply. Since I posted my message, we have found out that Renaissance has no disabled cabins and in fact will not allow our motorized scooter on board.

They are not disabled friendly and make no bones about it.

We have booked another Caribean cruise instead on Princess.
