Considering a trip on the Cunard Caronia (formerly the Vistafjord). Has anyone traveled on this ship, esp. since it was retrofited in 1999 who can tell us anything about the handicapped cabins as well as accessibility of the rest of the ship? Full time wheelchair user and experienced cruiser, but never on Cunard. Appreciate any information.
The Caronia is not really accessible. One elevator has a 30" doorway. Eventhough the ship was retrofitted in 1999, they did not change any of the bulkheads or make any accessible cabins. Also, Cunard is taking the Caronia out of US service. However, Cunard has just made a huge retrofit of the QE2, but I have not been on the QE2 since its retrofit.
Thanks. We were hoping to accompany some friends on a Norweigan Fjords trip this summer, but I guess we will try a different ship or go elsewhere. I wonder why they no longer have any accessible cabins, as apparently they did have about 6 on this ship when she was the Vistafjord.
