Default Disabled Great Aunt

Great Aunt would love to join us on the new Carnival Legend 15 day transatlantic cruise in Sept. However she fell and broke a hip a year ago, it mended nicely, she now uses a wheeled walker, more because she is afraid of falling again. She can walk without it but is not too stable. How do you think she would do on this cruise? There are 10 sea days which I think would be great for her. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for your help
Vicki

I think she will do great!

There are plenty of people with walkers on crusies.

Have fun!

I would also plan to take a lightweight folding wheelchair for use long distances on the ship, in case of rough seas (balance can be hard even for those who are able bodied) and for use on shore.

The ships usually have some for loan, but often they are all in use, they may not let you take them ashore, and they often are heavy standard E&J chairs.

Thank-you all for the good advice. Hope I can talk her into it. I know she would have a ball.

Hi Vicki,

My Mom has emphysema and is on oxygen 24/7 and when we are outside of the house she is in a wheel chair. When we were on the Sensation we had a handicapped accessable room and it was fine. I do agree with KLD on recommending a light weight collapsable wheel chair. I toss Mom in it and away we go!!!! Mind you she was exhausted when we got home but it was a wonderful exhaustion. So wonderful we are will be on The Pride this Sat. 2/2/02!!! We don't have a handicapped room this time because there are 3 of us and those rooms only hold 2 people.

Take your Aunt, what a wonderful, wonderful experience and what memories you all will have!

Michelle
