My husband and I were in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico two weeks ago for a short vacation. I would just like to tell everyone of how accessible the downtown tourist area is.
We were told that the area was recently redone to make it handicapped accessible for wheelchairs. I did see more people out and about in wheelchairs than I have seen in other destinations. We also saw many designated handicapped parking spaces.
There is a hotel, Playa Los Arcos that is very accessible with a cute beach front restaurant that is accessible. Along with an upscale restaurant, Cafe Kaiser Maximilian which has very good food and is also accessible.
We stayed out in an area called Punta Mita in a condo we rented at a complex called Punta Vista. Those condos are also accessible with elevators. It is beautiful there and directly on the beach front.
We saw where the cruise ships dock. That area also appeared to be handicapped friendly with the many shops and restaurants nearby.
One really interesting thing we found out is that there is a company in Puerto Vallarta that has handicapped equipped vans with lifts. The name of the company is called Mexico Accessible and its located in downtown Vallarta.
