Use of wheelchair to embark and disembark

Sailing on the Rhapsody of the seas out of Galveston. My husband can't stand or walk long distances although he does not need a wheelchair all the time. Are there wheelchairs at the cruise terminal for embarkation and on the ship on day of disembarkation?

I have not been out of Galveston BUT every port I have gone out of has wheel charis available. As soon as you arrive at the port, find someone in RCL attire and ask them to get one for your husband. It may take a little while, but they will find you one.

Thank you Cruisequeen, I was hoping that would be the case.

Seasail,
I have done the wheelchair thing from Galveston with rhapsody for my husband. Call RCCL before you go and tell them your booking number and ship. Let them know you will need a wheelchair for embarking and disembarking only. They will have a wheelchair waiting for you when you get there. A staff member will stay with you the whole time and take care of your husband. They will take you directly to your room. You won't have to wait at all was my experience. I am doing it for my dad when we go to Alaska. This all no charge unless you need to rent a wheelchair for the whole trip. RCCL is awesome!!! Have a great trip.......

Thanks all. We have decided to buy a wheelchair now, as eventually it will be needed more often. I did contact RCCL and it is noted on our reservation that we might need assistance if I'm not able to push up steep inclines.

Wheelchair for embark and disembark available on Princess?

Anyone know if Princess has available a wheelchair for embarking and disembarking? I have a scooter and would really rather not bring my manual wheelchair as well.

They do, but you will not be allowed to remove it from the ship, or use it exclusively on board. It is much better to have a manual chair to use ashore in nearly all ports, which are generally not scooter friendly. You can bring both your scooter and your wheelchair and gate check them on the plane. We use the manual chair as a luggage cart for all the carry-ons and it works great.

OK then, how about Carnival? Mom is turning 80 and as a gift to her, I bought her her first cruise. We leave out of Miami and wasn't quite sure if I should bring on with me or try to rent on there?

She doesn't use one at home, but big ships and long walks would probable tire her out very quickly.

Any thoughts from the experts?

Thanks
