Default single parent on Disney cruise?

I am considering taking my son (he'll be six) on one of the west Coast cruises that Disney is offering next year. Will I be bored with it being just he and I? It's a lot of $$$ and I'm wondering if it will be worth it ... any thoughts? I'm not overly senstive on the suject (nor is he) but if I'll be the only single in a sea of married couples, it may get a little old. I'd love to hear your input!

I think there are lots of other single parents on the cruise. I think there is even a singles meet time for a get together. There is a lot to do for you or nothing to do. Its what you make of it. There are a lot of married couples though, just so you know. Your son will love it though. He is a the perfect age. My 6 year old son loved it and had such a great time we are planning another cruise. Good luck.

disboards.com has a lot of information specifically for the Disney cruise and is a very active board. You may get more info there.

I was on the Disney Magic for my honeymoon, and there were actually a lot of singles on the ship. We're going back for the Western Caribbean cruise this November and bringing along the rest of my family.. three couples, three kids, and my brother who is single and in his 20s. There are a lot of activities on board, both for kids and adults, so I don't think you'll have a problem with being bored. If your son is 6, he'll LOVE it. My little sister will be six when we go in November, and she's really excited about it.

I was on the Wonder last September as a single dad with my 6yo son. True, there are mostly families and couples on the ship, but I still had a good time. I met some other singles in the disco area and we would hang out everynight. Other than that, there isn't much happening. I am thinking of doing the repo cruise in Aug. 2005, but I am thinking 2 weeks is just too long, not to mention expensive. I will tell you that when we went on Royal Carribean's Mariner in April, my son(and I) had a better time.

Hello,

I think that is a valid concern. As a single mom I have been thinking the same thing. I am taking my daughter Sept 12th-16th so I will let you know afterwards if what it was like.

I have travelled 3 times with my son. The forst time he was 3. Second time (he was also 3) we mwt up with another single mom and her daughter and had a blast. THe third time he was 4 and now, crusie 4 will be this Novemebr. He will be 6. Best thing is the security. Travelling alone with a yong child, you always worry about security in hotel tooms. But, on the cruise I have always felt VERY safe!

I am a single Mom of two sons ages six and eight. tWe just returned from a 7 day on the Disney Magic. Although I was in the minority being single, I feel bored or out of place for a minute. I do reccommend dinner companions, it is optional. It is fun to meet new people and can create some everlasting memories. Can't wait to cruise Disney again!!!!

My son and I will be on the May 28th sailing; he'll be almost 6, and we are travelling with my grandmother, who will be 85. I'm hoping to meet some other solo parents--my son will be into the kid's programming and my grandmother won't be able to keep up with me--I didn't hesitate to make these plans even though I know it's going to be marrieds and couples all over the place; so, anyone else thinking about it, go for it and let's have a great Disney cruise!
