My fiance and I are considering a Disney 7 night Western Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon next year in mid August. It'll be the first cruise for both of us, and his first time traveling to anywhere tropical. Neither of us are huge into Disney, but the idea of adults-only sections really appeals to us.
How suited is Disney for honeymoons? Would you recommend it or not, and if not, what line would be better? Thanks!
Hi,
well we have done 10 cruises with DCL, none with any other lines. So I can only give my opinions about DCL.
The ship is of course themed for Disney. Animators Palate is all disney themed in the restaurant, Parrot cay is just all tropical themed , so you wont feel so much disney, Tritons and lumieres is the fancy restaurant and it themed after beauty and the beast and the little mermaid, although it si so suttle that you dont feel over whelmed by the disney theme while dining. Palos. you would love for a romantic dining expereince. it is reservation only and there is a sur charge that actually covers your tip. This is an adult restaurant where you dress up and the food is the best on the ship!!!
The night clubs are nicely decorated, but not in disney pictures. It is very nice, you wont feel disney in the clubs so much either. The music is usually themed for the 50's , 60, and 70's and 80's. There is a live band and a dj with recorded music in one club, quiet romantic music in another, the Promenade lounge is for families and usually has a duo playing and does a variety of music.
One of the game shows in the clubs is Know your mate, which is a spin off for the newly wed game. The people married th eleast amount of time, the longest amount of time and some where in between are picked from the audience to participate. It is hilarious!!! You'd better be agood sport considering the questions they ask?? Being newly weds, if you wear the disney attire (hats) so people know you will be sitting ducks for the comedians in the clubs too. Sit in the front row if you dont mind, if you dont want to be noticed, sit towards the back and dont wear the bridal mickey hats. The quiet cove by the adult pool is anic ecoffee shop, adults only and at the adult pool they do keep an eye on kids not wondering there. They can walk past on the walk way, but if they come near the pool employees do send them away. So soem parts of the ship you will be hit with disney themes and characters, after all it is Disney, however you'll have no problem finding quiet places where it is adult only. Most kid shang out by the Mickey and Goofy pools during the day. If you dont want the noise of kids in the dining rooms, request late dining. People with little kids try for early dining before the kid sfall asleep.
I love disney so we like all the disney themed places, but even if we didint it would still be a great cruise to take. There are several people who cruise disney as couples and have ablast. there are lots of adult only things to do, so you can have as much or as little disney themed areas as you want. At the very back of the ship on deck 7 you will find a door to a verandah on the back of the ship. Most dont know that it is there or they have trouble finding it. It is very private and quiet. You might like to go there for some quiet time sometime, plus deck 4 is much quieter, just shuffle board and joggers there. That is where the padded lounge chairs are!! Lot s of people just go there to read or nap.
well that is just afew things that I know form my cruises. Like I said, i have not done other cruise lines yet. But the service on DCL is great. I think you would truly have an awesome time. the ports on the western are great, we just did them last december and loved it.

If you love disney, a DCL honeymoon would be wonderful. Attentive service and Disney style. There are plenty of adult areas to be found. It would be a great choice! **edited to remove commerical reference
Hi Lauren,
Since neither you nor your fiance are huge into Disney, I would spend the money on another cruise line. I've done 12 DCL cruises and while they are wonderful, there are a lot of other ships that have adult only areas and will have shows that are not all Disney-themed.
I would consider Celebrity or Oceania for the money that you pay for Disney.
Congratulations and have a great time whatever you decide!
Cathy
We just got back from our 5th cruise. Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas. In February we are going on our first Disney cruise with our 12 year old. For your first cruise, maybe a ship with not so many kids would be a good choice. There will be kids, but not hundreds like a Disney ship. Royal Caribbean is great! Beautiful ships, pretty islands, and fun entertainment.
What ever you decide, please research all your options. A cruise is the way to go.
Hi My Fiance and I are also going to go on a cruise for our honeymoon. We wanted to go on the disney one because we are big disney fans. But then we talked to a travel agent and she sugested that we not go on a disney one since we wanted the more adult atmosphere. So we looked into the different cruises and decited to pick Carnival. After the cruise we are then spending 4 days at Disney World.
Congrats and hope your wedding planning is going well.
I just returned from a Disney Cruise on Sunday. This was my second time with Disney. My first was in 2002 when I cruised with my family. This time I went with three other adults (are ages range from 25-30). This was my 19th cruise and one of my best! What I found on my sailing was that you can go on a Disney cruise and have a very nice adult experience! Unlike other ships their are no children lying in the elevators and elevator foyers. No one was running down the halls screaming and no one was climbing behind unoccupied bars to get liquor. All of these events I have seen happening on Carnival, RCI and Celebrity. Disney keeps the kids and the teens entertained. On our sailing we had over 700 kids and it was a very restful experience. I would recommend it for honeymooners however I must say you will not find Vegas entertainment and Casinos. The shows they have (as others have stated) are Disney shows that I think put all the cruise lines to shame with their broadway calibur. I am not a huge Disney fan, I like Disney, but I am not a die hard and I really had a great time. I especially love the food, the elegant art deco decor, the adult pool, the adult lounges and the BEST is the private island. I wish the ship would spend two days there. The adult beach was secluded and beatiful.
I totally agree with nycruiser!!!! You will love it!!! They have wine tasting a romantic restaurant on the top deck for adults, piano bar, and just all kinds of things that cater to Adults. The kids are so involved in activities you hardly notice them. Have a magical time!!!
I liked Disney with our kids, but I think the value on other cruise lines is better for a couples only vacation - unless you are really big disney fans. Castaway Cay's adult beach is very nice as has been stated before. I would do more research before picking Disney for this trip.
I think if you are looking for a casino and Vegas style review shows you should look elsewhere but I think in terms of quality in the 3/4 day cruise market DCL is the best over Carnival and RCI. DCL is the most money of the three but I think its worth it as you get a little more included on a Disney Cruise. I have done both of those cruise lines and felt Disney was a step up and I am not a huge Disney fan. But to each his own - I still have not been on the ship where I felt there were more adult venues then the Disney ship.
