When i bought my husband some binoculars i didnt know anything about brands either. I was told not to worry about brands just watch for the zoom on them. some are more than others. get a big zoom for them and you should be ok.
My son says Bushnell is a very good brand, he has 2 pair that are that brand. He says buy the medium priced ones. The lowest price in any brand usually are cheaply made, the medium are pretty good. The most expensive are only slightly better than the medium priced ones, not enough to make it worth the extra money. That is his opinion, he is 25 had has had a few pairs over the years.

good luck,, I believe I also bought Bushnell for my husband 2 years ago as a gift.

I ended up getting the Meade brand binoculars with the camera. So far hubby likes it and is impressed with it. I need to get a SD for it yet but overall hubby is a very happy camper now with it.

At Dick's Sporting Goods, my son got Tascos 12X25's. They work very good, because we have a 2 acre field at the neighbors and we look at deer and other animals.I highly reccommend them.
