Default Booking a Disney cruise

Any suggestions on how we can get a good deal for a 7 night Disney Caribbean cruise for Feb 2008? We will be two adults travelling with a 15 month old and from what I have read on these message boards, Disney is a great option. The price is what is holding us back a little. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
DCL doesnt really have specials unless you are active military or a florida resident.
But if you can cruise at the last minute they will often have a discount the last 3 weeks prior to a cruise just to fill the ship. you would need to call and ask when the times gets here.

Some TA's will offer a room credit of $200 per room as an incentive too, so keep looking at travel agencies.
many will put your name on a list for a specific cruise and if a special comes along they will notify you too. maybe you could get on a list with a TA somewhere.

If you rebook while on board you will get 10% off and a room credit. the room credit will depend on the length of the cruise you book. Then if you fins it fo rless they will adjust the price but you will often loose the room credit. But if the discount is more than the room credit you will come out ahead after loosing it.

You can go to DCL's web site and order a free DVD to learn all about the cruises they offer and the parts of the ship. It is great to watch.

also there is a book called the Passporter tha tis awesome for information about Disney cruises. Sorry I dont know what it costs .

I am about to go on my 15th Disney cruise next month, so if you have any other questions please ask and I will try to answer them for you.

Good luck.

One thing that you wont read or hear about from a TA is you can take a couple prewashed and ironed white pillowcases or a matte type frame that can be written on, put them and some water proof markers ( I use sharpie) and put them in a zip lock baggie with a card with your name and room number on in.
Take this the first day to the guest services desk and ask for it to be autographed. The last evening of the crusie it will be delivered to your room all signed by the characters.
This is a great FREE souvenir!!!

I use the darker colors of pens because the light colors dont show up as well. Like yellow or light pink.

You cn request all signatures or just a few of your favorites.
I always ask for all of them.

Just thought you might like to know this.

You can also try cruisecompete for competive pricing. I know depending on stateroom level sometimes the credits go as high as $600

Hi
It is key to know that Disney is most expensive when kids are out of schoo or holidays. As such, Sept and ealy Dec tend to be the best deals. Check Vacations to Go and Expedia and Travelocity. We are going on our 7th Disney cruise Dec 8 for one week- $599 per person- see Tra velocity. Note- Speaking on a per day basis, the Magic week long is the way to go re costs.

when comparing DCL prices also consider a lot of things that are free on disney ( or i should say included with the cruise) that other lines charge for.

we recently got a great deal on another line.
after 14 dcl cruises we thought we see the difference for what we were paying, if it was really worth the extra $$.

Everytime we turned around they were charging for something else.
Excursions were a lot higher than DCL too. They used alot fo the same companies so it must just be their cut was higher, but that is just a guess.

I only found 2 souvenirs on board under 20 dollars, a mug and some magnets. Karoake was a joke, the DJ kept interupting people and talking to th audience while they were singining, for kids he would have the music way too loud so you couldnt hear them, then turn it way down for adults where you couldnt hear the music. he was so rude to the people we left. we tried 3 times to go but it was aweful.
we were never greeted upon boarding or leavng the ship.
nobody said hello as we walked down the hallways.
decks were cut up and hard to navigate. upper outside decks had NO shade and were also cut up so you couldnt stroll around the deck to enjoy the view.
employees were not curtious at all, they ignored you when possible.
Due to lost luggage we miss the first night in the dinngroom, no big deal becuse the buffet was open and awesome, but the 2nd night we couldnt find our table.
NObody was at the managers desk for help so i grabbed at waiter and asked where our table was, he said he didnt know and pointed off to one side and said check over there and walked away.

No numbers on tables. so we went to the other side of the restaurant and again I flagged down a waiter and explained we needed help and were sent to that side of the restaurant. he said I dont know where your table is either.
so he pointed to the far left side o f the restaurant and said it must be over there, and walked away. This was a huge 3 story restaurant and hard to navigate for us.

so I again found a waiter who said I dont know where your table is. But I think it may be along that wall over there towards the far end and he started to walk away, I said NO, you show me, dont turn your back on us!!

so he walked to the side and pointed towards a column and said i think its one of those tables and left us just standing there.

we did get another waiter to seat us.
this would NEVER happen on DCL. There is always someone at the managers desk, the staff is trained to find any seat in the restaurant, they wont point and walk away, the will escort you to the correct table as well as numbers on the table.
They do this everynight even if its your second night in the restaurant.

DCL greets you as soon as you set foot o n the ship and will answer any questions, and set you off the correct way to find lunch with others all along the way.
also they bid you farewell, the others didnt. over 3 hours to get off the s hip where dcl was 20 minutes to get off. Our daughter took almost 5 hours to get off.

The entire atmospere is so incredibly different you just cant describe it.

we never realized how much extra servie DCL offers compared to other lines. Our grandkids even had the room host take their mints they saved half way through the cruise. I realize he may of thought they wernt going to eat them but they were neatly stacked in the same place everyday and until they vacated the ship everything in that room was theirs and he had no right to remove it.

just too many things to mention again, I did post a trip report that is probably a couple of pages back now but DCL is so worth the extra dollars . i can honestly say even if I had to go less often and save for a couple of exra years to go DCL instead of another line I would.

They could offer me a free cruise on the other line and I wouldnt take it! Thats how bad it was on the ship. Kids clubs were just as bad for the teens.

Ports were awesome. ships crew, aweful!!
yes I did write and tell them as well as I told the TA all the problems we had.

so if you can swing a DCL cruise, especially if you have kids, do ti!!
you wont be sorry.

Thanks for all the information. We are sticking with Disney. :-)

Has anyone heard of MEI and Mouse Fan Travel? They came back with a great quote on CruiseCompete.com, but I wanted to see if anyone had heard of them or used them before to book cruises. Their price is almost a $1,000 cheaper than what the Disney site quotes for the same 7 day cruise.

sorry I havnt hear of them, but then when we booked we just book through disney and hope for Florida resident rates to be announced just before the cruise.

I know the Dreams Unlimited is suppose to be a good agency. I dont know their prices but , but I have read many reports where people mentioned using them for their cruise and got a good deal.
you may want to check them out too.

I dotn think we are suppose to list those sites here because they call it advertising, but I will try and find it and PM it to you.

Kathleen.

That is a huge difference...I would be sure you are comparing apples to apples (stateroom level, transfers, insurance, number of people etc.) A difference like that is extremely unusual in the case of Disney who is not into discounting

I was really skeptical too when I saw it - but when I called the agent, she said the price difference was due to the fact that they book in blocks a couple of years in advance, so we would actually get the price from back then. Is that even possible? Same category state room, same things included (travel insurance, transfers etc). Thoughts?

We have booked 18 months in advance. and it is true the prices will creep up alittle each month after they release the prices and dates.

since it sounds like you are talking 2009??
Those dates and rates havnt been announced yet??
so how do they know what it will be? They always change prices each year so nobody ever really knows how much it will cost.

I would be a little skeptical . You should check out a couple other places and see what they say, perhaps the TA's get the info before we do, but I doubt it

I meant that we are getting 2005/2006 rates since the TA had blocked future dates then.. does that make sense?

Kathleen, I looked the TA up on the other forum that you mentioned and found that a lot of people have used them and liked them.. I have requested a quote from DU as well. I'll let you know what I find.

ok, i see what you are talking about but that just sounds too good to be true.
I am a Florida resident and they sometimes offer last minute discounts to us to fill the ships. We are suppose to get the best rates.
for our cruise next month we saved $800 for our verandah cabin on deck 7.

I know when you cruise will affect your rates. The week before and the week after a holiday are usually lower in price because they have trouble filling the ship.

I just have never heard of such a large discount through a TA before.
It may be that you have stumbled on a great deal, but read all the details carefully.

It may be it doesnt include travel insurance, where other rates do.
Make sure which rooms they are.
there are some cabins on deck 2 that are noisy and all the experienced cruisers know about them and wont take them. Perhaps they give an exrta discount if they can fill those rooms??

good luck!! I hope you really got a good deal, but I would take a few minutes to get rates from a couple other places too, just to be safe.

They should be able to come close to the rates you were quoted if they are legitimate.

Kathleen

Just curious, which cruise were you wanting to book??

I agree with Kathleen. We've booked group space before and never seen that large a difference later. The only way it may be possible is if you are going President's week and they just had a cancellation but I would still find that unlikely. I hope it is a good deal for you though and you can enjoy

We just booked the cruise!!!! We did end up using MEI Travels - their quote was the lowest (1k cheaper than Disney).. DU came back close to MEI but still a couple of hundred $$ higher. We are getting a cat 6 cabin on Deck 6 mid-ship - is that good?

mid ship is good for less movement.

if you know your room number you can go to this site and check out room reports on it, that may help you some to find out about your r oom.

I am glad you got booked with a great deal!!

Have a magical cruise
