I have been thinking about booking a cruise on the Disney Cruise lines for my family. Unlike families with young ones, our "kids" are 23 and 21. Is it worth it or will be overrun by little kids? Thanks.
We (2 adults) embarked on a Disney (Magic) cruise in November 2005, and it was great. We met lots of other adults travelling without children, and they were enjoying it at least as much. For several of them, they had been on multiple Disney cruises.
There is a separate adult-only pool, and 3 adult-only night clubs. On Castaway Cay, there is also an adult-only section of beach. There is a spa and lots of adult activities, but no casino.
I highly recommend Disney, especially if you are looking for a smaller (approx 1200 people) cruise ship that's not a party boat. At the time I travelled, they also gave free soda drinks, which is a bonus.
My understanding is that Disney Cruises are great for adults. I personally would prefer to take another cruise line that has a casino and gives you more bang for your buck (Disney is about 30% more expensive for similar accomodations compared to other premium limes like Holland America, Celebrity or Princess).
However - Disney knows tourism and entertainment and you can expect high quality. Enjoy your trip!
I am the editor, but I also speculate, ask questions and play devil's advocate. I reserve the right to change my mind.
I think Disney does a fabulous job of providing adults-only areas on the ship and on Castaway Cay. After cruising with Disney four times I tried another cruise line because I wanted the casino experience also. Well, the casino was very small, extremely smoky and not much fun. I only went once. Dollar for dollar, Disney is the way to go.
