Default Magic vs. Wonder? St Croix vs. St Martin?

Hey everyone, Hey Kathleen!

Well we are thinking of making the big 7day disney cruise purchase for the summer 09! We also figure this would be the best choice to bring our new baby who will be 6-7months old by then. Our other daughter will be turning 7 in february and this would be the last year she could attend the oceaneer club which she soooo enjoyed a few years ago on the wonder. My question is, on the Magic....is the club the same? Does it have that cool huge pirate ship inside...the stage...the dress up area ect. Is the Magic as nice or nicer then the wonder?

Also...What is the difference between st martin and st croix? We will be bringing the little ones. There is about $700 difference between the 2 7day magic cruises....the st croix one is the more expensive.

I called disney...they only charge $30+tax for for a 7mo old! How cool is that!

Anyway, if you can give me any feedback, that would be awesome!
Thanks
Kim

Hi Kim,

I am so happy your going to get to cruise the Magic this time.
I honestly dont know about the pirate ship on the Magic. I was there in the club 2 years ago and dont remember seeing it. There was a dress up area with lots of clothes for the kids to use.
a tree for climbing in and a small green slide.
I will try and ask soemone I know who has kids that has beenin the club recently.
I have friends who went in August and their kids did the clubs, so perhaps I can find out for you.
The Magic just came out of drydock and so they mayhave made some changes in the club areas. I dont know for sure.

Soon we will have trip reports to tell us.

I havnt been to St.Croix yet but I have been to St. Maartin many times and I do like it.
Great shopping there with easy access by water taxi or you can walk into town, but I would recommend the taxi. Its cheap, fast and safe.

There is a neat butterfly farm there the kids might like, although the baby really wont know. But the 7 year old will.
also if you take the water taxi to shop where you get off at, walk just a few feet then right or left are nice sandy beaches to relax i fyou want with a great view of the ship.
They rent the chairs and umbrellas there but it is cheap. They will bring you beverages and food and bathrooms are close. Shopping is right behind you which is convenient.
also you can grab a taxi there to take you anywhere on the island.

Take your own water. There are NO water fountains and water costs alot to buy there. Bathrooms often want a TIP to use them. The ones in the casinos are free and much nicer than the public ones.

Just in case I would buy a travel size toilet seat cover, toilet paper and hand sanitizer to carry inyour bag.

we have often found public bathrooms to not be stocked at all and were so glad I had travel size stuff with us.

I will see what I can find out about the pirate ship in the clubs for you and post when I do.

Plus if nobody knows after drydock I ma going on the Magic on 11/29/08 and I will be happy to check it out in person for you.

so if you have any other questions that I can checkout for you, please let me know.

Kathleen

Thanks Kathleen! St Martin sounds like the choice for us then....that little beach that brings you drinks and easy access bathrooms sounds perfect, I will need both! Thanks for the bathroom tips too. Great to hear the pirate ship is on the magic, that's all our daughter talks about...well not just that, everything about the disney cruise.

Another question, do they offer any discounts for past guests? I couldn't find it on their website. Also, do you know if when we are docked at castaway cay...how long the nursery is open and how long we are allowed to use it during this period?

Thanks again!

actually the discounts are when you book on board. They giv eyou 10% off and room credit up to $200 depending on the crusie you take.

what they do for you is there is a gift waiting in your stateroom for being a return guest, plus during the week you will receive an invitation to a private party with the Captain and officers for repeat guests only, the entire family is welcome.
snacks and beverages will be provided and door prizes are given out. they draw out your invitations you must give them to enter the party.

we won a nice silver DCL desk clock once.
when you board on the welcome aboard paper they give you will have open house hours for the nursery.
Youwill be allowed to book 10 hours over the course of the cruise.
2 hour minimum at a time. I think its $6 per hour.

They only allow a few kids at a time so they are almost one on one with the kids. so book on CC day if you want.
during the week they are moslty afternoon and evening hours.
Not sure for CC day, I know they are open part of that day.

Now during the week. people do cancel their reservations, so keep in touch with them and you may be able to pickup extra hours there. I know others who have done that. so that should help you.

The nursery looks small but as I said just a few kids at a time,so its perfect for that and being able to see them all at once. There is a 2 way mirror you canlook in and see your baby without her seeing you too.

I will see if I can find out exact nursery hours for you. I will get back to you on that.

Kathy

Reef Nursery:

This group babysitting center is designed for little ones from 12 weeks to 3 years of age. This is the only option open to parents of the little ones as there is no in-room babysitting service. Unlike the planned programs for the older children, there is a charge of $6 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours. For additional children in the same family, the charge $5 per hour. Cancellations can be made without penalty 12 hours in advance.

The pale sea blue walls adorned with cut-out clams, seahorses, snails and bubbles, and the floor with waves of sparkling blues and greens give a soothing feel to the Little Mermaid themed childcare center. The center is well-equipped with fun music, a television and VCR, baby swings, walkers and a lot of good quality toys designed to stimulate and entertain the little tykes. Reservations are on a first come-first serve basis and are based on babysitter availability. To reserve, go to the Flounder's Reef Open House on Embarkation Day (check your Personal Navigator for times).

There are a maximum of four infants (those not yet walking) and 16 toddlers allowed, depending on the number of volunteer Crew Members on hand. Parents are required to provide their own diapers/Pull-Ups, baby wipes, extra clothing, pre-made bottles labeled with the child's name, baby food in jars, sipper cups and security items such as blankets, pacifiers or a favorite toy. Parents are given a pager so that they can be contacted in case of a medical or emotional need. Caregivers are not qualified to administer medication but there is a trained CPR/First Aid Crew Member present at all times.

now I will look for the hours

I found mor einfo but it wont copy so I will PM you withit,

The gift in the room and captains party sound nice. Although we probably won't be able to go to the party with the baby, but that is fine. The link was very helpful too! Thank you!!

Babies are wlecome too, it is an informal type of party. It is geared for families. take her and enjoy yourself. have a snack and plenty of places to sit and relax too.

If it gets akward for you, no problem to leave early.

I just got back from my 4th Disney Cruise yesterday! I do not book directly with Disney, because it is a lot more expensive. I have two boys that are young and we have had the best time each year that we have gone. We love the Disney Cruise and will go again next year! ***edited to remove advertising***
