we will be family cruising on the wonder with grandkids that are 5, 7, 9, and 11 years old. what will we need for the kids as far as passports, id's, or birth certificates?
you might want to look it up on line to be sure . I cant remember for sure but it's either this January or January 2010 that passports will be required for EVERYONE!!
They extended the date a couple years ago due to the huge volume of people getting passports.
You can call the crusis line to ask when that goes into effect.
If your cruising before then you will need certified birth certificates. that means the one with the raised seal.
NO hospital ones they often give new moms. It has to be the official one sent out by the state where the person was born, they are very strict on that.

Everyone over the age of 16 has to have a photo ID too or a passport.

A raised seal is not necessary. A certified copy is fine.

passports are not required for the Wonder but are encouraged. The birth certificate is sufficient to sail but in case of emergency, you would need a passport to fly home.
If there is an emergency and you need to be FLOWN back to the states from the BAHAMAS you will need a passport--we went ahead and got them for our kids 3 and 5. We live a couple hours from canada and will need them to go there anyway......

Hey... old guy... we just came off the Magic and as of right now anyone aged 14 and below just need a birth certificate if they are US citizens... and are traveling with an adult that is a US citizen and has a passport.
Good luck! And enjoy the savings... but passports all around will soon be necessary!
Hey there
At the moment, as long as you are taking a closed loop cruise (meaning - round trip starting in the U.S. and ending back in the U.S.) you only need a birth certificate and a valid photo I.D. (i.e. a Drivers license). For kids, a birth certificate. Passports are recommended , however, the requirement is as I just stated.
