Best transportation from MCO to Port Canaveral
We have a Disney cruise on hold for January 2010...whoohoo...I am trying to gather all the particulars. Can people give me an idea of the best ways to get from Orlando to Port Canaveral? We will probably be staying at the Residence Inn in Cocoa Beach the night before.

So excited...

You may want to consider renting a car. It is about an hour drive from MCO to Cocoa Beach. Check to see if the car rental company has a drop-off at the Melbourne International Airport, where you can catch a shuttle or cab.

Car Rental
All agree that the cheapest option is to rent a car one-way from the airport, drive to the port, drop luggage/family off at port, drop rental car off and take rental car shuttle back to the port. Repeat in reverse for your post-cruise trip back to the airport. Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Avis & Enterprise, all have drop off locations and free round trip shuttles very close to the port (companies are listed in order of closeness to the port). These four places are open on Sundays and their port shuttles start early in the morning until the afternoon.

Look here for car rental coupons and discount codes:

Enterprise Car Rental is now located in Cape Canaveral where Hertz once was
Address is:6211 North Atlantic Avenue, Cape Canaveral 32920
Phone number is 321-866-0324
fax number is 321-866-0325
They have 4 shuttles to and from the port - open at 7AM and closes at 6PM - they are opened 7 days a week.

Their hours are Monday to Friday 7:30AM to 6PM and Saturday & Sunday 8AM to 4PM

(these seem to be the most favorite)

Taxi Service to the port and around the port area:

One way from the Orlando airport to the port is 100.00 dollars on up. Taking a taxi from your Cocoa Beach / Cape Canaveral hotel to the port will run you around $9.00 to $10.00 10 minutes drive time from anywhere in Cocoa Beach.

Thanks Manuel,

I just have so little time for posting right now. been really busy with my mom and all her affairs. Its been a real roller coaster.

I will try to stop by one of these days.

Tell everyone hi for me.

Manuel September 15th, 2009 09:37 PM

Kathy, I know what it's like, because my mom also is keeping us busy. She has dimentia and her memory is fading pretty fast.

I will tell the gang. And God bless you

We were a group of 8 and used LuxTransO. We paid $227 plus tip for the round trip with a van, which is around $17 per person one way. Here is their MCO to Port Canaveral transportation page. They have free grocery stop, but we didnít use it. Looks less hassle and cheaper than rental. The service quality was good. Shuttles are expensive for more than 3 passengers in goup.

I hope this helps. It was the cheapest I found.

If you have a small group that can fit into a car or a van, renting a car is a great way to go. Not only can it be very inexpensive, but affords you some wonderful options.

We like to rent a car at the airport, then I'll drop Nancy and the luggage at the pier, go to the car rental counter, which is less than 3 miles away for most of the major companies, check in the car, and then take their free shuttle to the pier. When we get back from the cruise, I repeat the process in reverse.

We've rented cars for as cheap as $25 each way, but no more than $45 - depends on the time of year and any specials they may be offering, especially for AAA or AARP members. But it pays to join their frequent renter programs.

By doing this, we can go where we want when we want. We have a couple of places where we love to shop that we don't have available to us - especially Sheplers!! It's an awesome western store. But we've also gone to the beach and to Kennedy Space Center.

For groups larger than 5 or 6 people than you can fit into a van, there are some really good and fairly inexpensive shuttle services available.

But this is one airport-to-pier combination where taking a taxi is not a good option - way too expensive. There are just better & cheaper options available.

My family is always using STAR TRANS-VIP
Great company. I use them when i come to Orlando for business and when we travel as a family.
Of course it depends on people's budget. private car is not cheap, but it is definitely the most convenient option there is.
