Default Land/Sea Transportation

My husband and I are travelling with our daughters (ages 25 and 9) in May 2010. We are doing 4 days at Animal Kingdom, followed by 3 days on the Wonder. Since Disney no longer offers the Land/Sea combination (well, you can add a hotel stay before/after your cruise but cannot purchase dining or theme park-with-waterpark passes), we booked ach separately. And since we're only going one way for each ground transportation, I didn't book the transportation offered by Disney. Based on that, can anyone offer advice on:
  1. Best way to get from Orlando Int'l airport to Animal Kingdom Lodge?
  2. Best way to get from Animal Kingdom to Port Canaveral?
  3. Best way from Port Canaveral to Orlando Int'l airport?
Thanks for your help!
Lainey

My suggestion would be to rent a car, then you are free to roam about any time you want. Orlando airport has car rentals on site/near b. Also near the port where the ship is there are car rental drop offs. If i am not mistaken they offer free shuttle service to your ship.

WDW has a free shuttle from OIA to your hotel if your staying on property like you are. It's called the Magical express. It is free but you may have to let them know your taking it, I cant remember for sure but its close to baggage claim and there are plenty of signs to direct you to it.

That will save some $$.
Then you can rent a car on property, I think AAA sponsers it to drive to the port if you want. But I am not sure if they are the correct company where you can return the car at Cocoa beach and then use their shuttle as the above psoter metnioned and then rent the car again to drive back to the airport. We didnt want all the hassle.

so we just caught the magical express to WDW, then we had booked seats on the cruise line bus to take us to the port and then to the airport.
I think it was $35 er person each way plus tax. Not sure if prices have changed.

But we figured by the time we pay to rent the car, fill with gas like they require, pay the tolls along the way and have the hassle of driving both ways and having to deal with luggage it was worth DCL's price to use their buses. They play a cartoon movie on the way about the cruise which is fun and entertaining. You will be picked up right at your hotel and your luggage will show up at your room. Plus they will deliver it to the airport when you go back. That is so nice.

After all its vacation so we take away all the stress we can.

Unless you plan to rent a car for use while you at Animal Kingdom Lodge I would suggest taking Disney's free Magical Express bus service from MCO to your resort. As you probably already know, Disney provides free bus transportation from your resort to all the parks and downtown disney so IMHO there is really no need to rent a car while there.

As far as getting from your resort to the port you can easily book DCL transfers which will pick your family up from your resort and bring you to the airport after the cruise. Transfers are $69.00 per person round trip or $35 pp one way.

With 4 people it's debatable that you may be better off with a town car service rather than using DCL transfers, the cost comes out to be just about the same. I believe Tiffany Town Car service in the Orlando area is about the best priced and most reliable town car option from all the info I have read.

We go to disney at least 1-2 times a year and we have been using magical express since they started it a few years ago - it's wonderful!

Have fun on your vacation!

Thanks for your input - much appreciated! I'll price the Town car servie first to see if it's more economical to book that vs. 4 people on the bus.

Best regards,
