I heard from my TA, that Disney may be cruising out of Galveston, Texas in the future. Not sure how soon.

That would be strange because 2 years ago the signed a long term agreement with Port Canaveral for 2 ships and are even upgrading the terminal and building a huge parking garage there as part of the deal.
Maybe they are going to do special itenaries where Disney will be there sometimes? Once the Fantasy comes out in 2012 the Magic was to go to the West coast, perhaps their deal there wasnt good enough so they are thinking of keeping the Magic in a new area and just send the Wonder to the West coast for their Alaskan cruises in the summer and Mexican Riveriea in the winte rmonths. That would make sense.
I will be excited to see what happens???

I still doubt it, but perhaps they decided that the west coast is too far to take the Magic and would do Galveston. IMHO-That would be a better plan. I don't think a Disney ship out of LA would work.

Snoozeman, when I said Galveston it could also be the Houston Port where there is basically a new terminal just sitting there. They said this area, and I may have assumed Galveston, but talked to them again today and they said probably the Houston Terminal.

I hope they do use the Houston Bayport facility if they do come to Texas. Galveston will be busy with the Carnival Magic, Mariner of the Seas, and Carnival Triumph.
Very interesting..........

Paul Motter Just to be clear - I spoke with Disney directly and this decision is not yet firmed up - it could happen, but nothing is definitely decided yet.
Any new news on this?

They issued the Press Release and it had all kinds of news about the new ship, etc., but didn't address where the Magic was going to go beyond current schedule. Everything but. They still show Los Angeles for 2011, but no mention of 2012.

Oh my, this would be so great! I realize there's no news on this, but if they did eventually start sailing out of Galveston or Houston, I would so be there! I'm not a Disney maniac, but it sounds like an excellent line with plenty for all ages. I'm planning to book with RCI for my first cruise mainly because of the DreamWorks experience, but if I could choose Disney out of Galveston, I'd save a LOT of money, the other perks of the Allure notwithstanding!
I appreciate your enthusiasm. If you are that excited why not just book a Disney cruise out of Port Canaveral? You get to fly into Orlando and can see DisneyWorld on the same trip.
Allure is great, too, but the truth is the immersion in the Disney experience on Disney ships is more complete than the immersion in DreamWorks on RCL ships.
DreamWorks is an 'added' aspect of Allure, but the Disney ships are pure Disney throughout the entire ship.

Well, let me see if I can explain this- not to hijack the thread, but:
My mother is taking us to WDW this year in May. One of my kids (DD17) is a Disney FANATIC. She would love to follow up this year's trip with a Disney cruise. BUT... Disney's a little expensive, and her twin sister did not care to do a Disney repeat, and their kid brother didn't really care too much one way or the other. I was just shopping around for other lines that might have had character dining when I discovered RCI's DreamWorks experience. Complete immersion isn't necessarily the goal, but would be fine if that's how it was.
The sailing out of Galveston thing would just be a perk, since we live in Southern OKlahoma. If RCL had a DreamWorks ship that sailed out of Galveston, that's where we'd be, but they don't, so... then I found Allure, which ALSO had Chicago! Which I love. Then we started looking at the other things on Allure, like the Cupcake Cupboard and the Carousel, and when taken together with the DreamWorks character dining, we had found our vessel!
Basically, someone needs to have a ship with cupcakes the size of your head, a carousel, any kind of character experience, and Chicago, that also sails out of Galveston so we wouldn't have to pay for air, and we'd have found Nirvana!

The Carnival Magic has many new things on it for a Carnival ship and she is going to Galveston. New 2 tier golf course, rope climb, soccer area, full basketball court. That is all I can remember for now.
