Default New York City - where to stay/where to park

Hi. We're booked on the Caribbean Princess out of NYC in July. Would appreciate any suggestions/help/guidance on a place to stay the night before and a place to park. Are we better off staying "out of town" and getting a limo/cab into the City or ...? Not sure if we depart from Manhattan or Brooklyn (or what the difference in the two might be). Princess not yet decided I guess - or it depends on availability and its too soon to tell.

Thanks.

The good thing about NYC is the public transportation system. If you are sailing from Manhattan you could park many places and take the train to Penn Station which is only a $8.00 cab ride to the pier.

Penn station is also the arrival point for the Path Train (subway) from New Jersey.

If you are sailing from Brooklyn there are probably plenty of parking lots out there since so many people commute into the city.

We will be leaving from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in February. We didn't want to park our new car by the water at the Terminal for two weeks, so I have looked into parking in a garage. I was not able to find anything on-line for Brooklyn (I live in Maryland), but there is a lot of parking in Manhatten. This website gives a very good listing of parking lots and appears reputable.

The most reasonable parking lots seem to be in the Gramercy Park area.

Hope this helps.
