Port of Galveston---All questions about sailing from Texas

That will be quite a bus ride. Just guessing but it must be 4-5 hours at least.

I would confirm that the bus goes all the way to Galveston and not to the train terminal in Houston.

Thanks. Yeah, the bus ride from Longview is six hours and goes to the Galveston bus station on the corner of 25th and Strand streets. I'd just fly down, but the other half isn't getting on a plane, and he does not want to drive, either.

I'm prepared for a long ride in Texas. I've only been to Texas a couple of times, but I know it keeps on going and going! Love San Antonio.

It has been 3 years since we sailed the Conquest out of Galveston. Both times we sailed from there, we stayed at the Comfort Inn right on the water in Galveston and parked our car there and used their shuttle. Since the hurricane, we have a few questions.

Is the Conquest sailing from Houston or Galveston now?
If sailing from Galveston, are there hotels near the terminal?
If not, what hotels are nearby? Is there a Courtyard/Marriott near the terminal?

Galveston. There's a nice hotel next to the pier if you want to stay there. Check GALVESTON.COM: Official Website of Galveston Island, Texas Tourism & Marketing for good information. There are Marriott affiliate hotels in Galveston.

Carnival is only selling cruises out of Galveston through August of 2011. The itineraries of the Ecstasy and Conquest don't go out past August of 2011 either so they aren't scheduled to move to another port. Do you know if Carnival is in the process of renegotiating the Galveston port contracts? Is changing to the Houston port a possibility?

There is a port near Houston but they have been silent or lazy in getting anything about cruise ships announced.

Some here are hoping for the rumour of the new Carnival Magic being assgned to Galveston.

Royal might be bringing a new ship there as well.
