Default Best way to get from Orlando to Pt Canaveral and Pre hotel

Hi Everyone, we are on FOS in September 09 and we are looking for suggestions on getting from Orlando to Pt Canaveral as well as a good hotel prior to the cruise. Also, if we rent a car can we return it at the pier? Any help would be appreciated. Any hotles near by that offer shuttle service tothe pier? Or is renting a car the best way to go? 8)

I know this is really old but I think any new comers might appreciate some info.

Renting a car is generally the cheapest way to get to port. You can drop off and pick up cars at the pier. The drive from airport to port is fairly painless (approx 45 mins) though there is a toll.

Using the cruise lines transportation will be more expensive but if you are only two people and/or are under the age of 25 (and get whacked w/ extra fees to rent a car) then this might be your best option. This, too, is painless --- usually around $70/pp --- and stress free. If you don't like driving in unfamiliar places = take the cruiseline transp.

You can also rent a limo or other private car hire. If you have more than 3 people in your party... don't want to rent a car... then this will probably be the cheapest way to go. There are lots of reputable companies to choose from.

Can't help w/ hotels as I have always flown in day of.

On our jan 08 cruise we used Budget to get to Port Canaveral.

If you arrive towards night stay Orlando near the airport.

There are a number of good hotels about 10 mins from the airport.

The drive to Port Canaveral is about an hour. I would allow about 2 hrs to

drive to the port with time for dropping off the car and taking the shuttle

back to the ship.

We stayed at the Radison around $129 per night
they have a shuttle to get you to the port and they will allow you to leave car at the hotel until you get back for a cheaper rate than at the port.We have stayed there 3 times and will again --we love the pool --absolutely beautiful and they are alway friendly and helpful.
Kathy( hint just per book they fill up fast)

I recently booked from Port Canaveral, and though not staying before in a hotel, the cruise line transportation (RCCL) is the cheapest way to get down there before and after the cruise.

I have also heard the Rad is a great place to stay pre or post cruise.

Happy sails.
