New Orleans hotels w/free parking

Hey y'all,
We're booked on the Carnival Conquest out of New Orleans on 12/18. I have heard that there are some hotels (Holiday Inn Superdome) that will let you leave your car all week, if you spend the night prior to embarkation.
Is that correct, are there any hidden pitfalls?

We live about 5 hours away, so it is entirely possible to spend the night at home, then drive down, BUT if the parking is free or cheap, it will be worth it not to have to pay $16+ at the pier.

It's been a while since I was on the boards, so please be kind if I have overlooked a previous discussion.

We are arriving in New Orleans at 11:00 the night before our cruise. Does anyone have any ideas for hotels in the area? We would like somewhere that offers transportation from the airport and to the cruise port.
