Default jazz

Do jazz artists generally play cruise ships? Perhaps certain cruise lines are more likely to have a jazz group, or artist, play as onboard entertainment than others?

I know Carnival has a jazz quartet in one of their lounges on most ships.

Generally I'd guess the larger the ships, the more lounges... the more likley they'd have a full time area dedicated to jazz.

There are some "Jazz Theme Cruises" where the ship will likely be filled with Jazz. Just try a google search.

We cruised the "Mariner of the Seas" recently, and they had a great jazz group in one of the lounges. Not meny people knew they were there, so it wasn't very crowded. It's a shame, as they were really, really good.

We just returned from the "Carnival Glory", and they too had an excellent jazz group. I agree that most of the larger ships are going to have a jazz combo or group aboard.
Good luck, and see ya aboard,

Ken

In my experience, there is jazz on mass market cruise lines, but it generally falls into the category of mellow smooth jazz or jazz standards, a la Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, that sort of thing.

If you're looking for some Charlie Parker BeBop or progressive contemporary jazz, I think, as Kuki suggested, google for some sort of Jazz theme cruise.
