Has anyone who did a Baltic/ Scandinavia cruise used the services of Red October for a private tourr in St. Petersburg? I have engaged them for a 2 day tour in August but am interested in feedback. They appear to have excellent prices and tours available.
We used a company called Note Bene .
See Baltic Sea Cruise in the Photo Gallery that I posted some time back.
I think a good local company does a better job than the ships tours, but you must get the visa.
Just got back from the Baltic. We used Red October for our 2 days in St. Petersburg. You will not be disappointed. They were fantastic and most definately the highlight of our cruise.
We were on the NCL Dream. St. Petersburg was the only place we booked tours. Everywhere else we did on our own, either using the hop on, hop off buses or taking taxis to where we wanted to go.
We are going to Tallinen, Stockholm and Helsinki. Were wondering if it is easy to get English speaking drivers to take us around as we want to avoid takiing the tours offered by the cruise line. Any help would be appreciated.
We just got back. Used a lady named Olga Stepanova. She spoke wonderful english. Got us into the Hermitage without waiting in lines (the line was huge).
I emailed her what I wanted to see. She lined up a driver and car (black Mercedes with leather seats). She was $7 hour, car and driver were $10 hour.
Her email is stepanoveolga@hotmail.com. We had Visas. I highly recommed getting one cause it gives you freedom to do stuff on your own. We went to Peterhof on our own one day using the hydrofoil. Worked out well.
We used Laura, who went to Red October, last fall when she was with another tour group to arrange our tour. We shared a van, driver and guide with another couple and the 2 days in St. Pete's were wonderful and worth every penny. Also, we saw more than was possible with all the shore excursions for about the same price, but no crowds! Also got to spend some time just walking the main drag in town, which was fun. Laura came on the ship and got us off and thru customs at 7:00 AM- we were always into sites without a wait in line, and spending 2 days with our guide gave us a wonderful picture of life today in Russia. And we didn't need a visa- not sure if this still holds true with Red October. Laura was easy to work with both online and when we got to St. PEte, and our guide, Kira, was fantastic. SandyB
We also used Laura on our trip to St.Petersburg in July 2001. It was worth every penny. She met us on the ship and we were off on our tour in no time. No visa required. We spend 2 days with them in a Mercedes van. We were 4 couples. Our guide got us in to places quickly as we were a small group. I highly recommend her services, you will not be disappointed. If you want more details, just write to me directly.
We will be in St. Petersburg July1st and 2nd. (2003). Would like info and website please, and any useful info you can give me. We would like to be in a group[ as well. Thanks, Eileensunor wrote:

My wife and I are cruising on the Regal Princess June 29th and we are looking to share a private tour in St. Petersburg July 3 & 4, 2003 with another couple. Please contact me if interested.
We used them last August from the Constellation. They were fabulous, and I believe the only non-ship sponsored tour group tghat you don't need a visa with. I can't recommend them enough. We spent 2 full days with them, and they took us to the Kirov Ballet one night as well. We traveled in a comfortable Mercedes van and pretty much picked our own itinerary. If you want more info on our specific guide, please e-mail me and I'll be happy to look it up.
We will be taking a summer cruise. Can you tell me how you found Red October to book? Is this something you'd choose over the ship's itinerary? Thanks..
I found Red October through other members of the board. We chose to do a private tour and we were able to cover more territory then the ship tours. With Red October you do not need to have VISAs and Laura will arrange everything for you.
My husband and I will be sailing on the Regal Princess on May 20th, and will be doing excursions with Red October on May 24th and 25th. We're looking for 2 others to share our tour with us. Please contact us if you're interested in going with us.
Eileen,
There are 4 of us on Celebrity's Constellation teaming up for tours, July 1st and 2nd. Want to join us to defray costs? Looking at Red October for 2 days..
