Who knew at my age I could fall in love again....and with all places a country!
My spring time cruise to Italy, had me at hello Surprisingly for many I bet, my favorite place was not the most famous city on our itinerary, but, this beautiful town in Sicily, named Taormina. For a first timer like me, maybe I have stars in my eyes, and, I know there is beauty around every corner..here is a picture I love, below, which just shows a bit of the charm we experienced, at every turn.
What place in Europe has your heart? Would you share your favorite picture with us? A minute or two of every day, my mind has gone back to Taormina.

It's not technically in Europe (though they really did want to be part of the EU) (not so sure if they feel that way now ).... Istanbul is my favorite city in the world (that I've been too).
All the worlds (and their histories) collide in Istanbul and all leave their marks for you to see. You travel through centuries in one city.
I would have to say that the one city that I would love to go back to and spend more time is Lisbon, Portugal. The city itself was enchanting and interesting and the areas around it Cascais, Sintra, etc. were old world charm and natural beauty.
Our next European cruise will be out of Venice. Betty and I were talking about it this weekend and it was rather shocking to realize that it has been sixteen years since we had been to Venice. My time flies. It seems like just a few years ago.
Take care,
Mike

Besides Brussels where I lived, I have spent most time in Paris. Paris might have to be at top of my list; but London can't be far down that list. Paris for restaurants, cafes, museums, and sights and London for history, theater, and Sunday roast. We spent many four day weekends in European cities but none called us back again. Of course, as for sight seeing, we still need to spend more time in Rome and Florence.
Trip, Taormina is wonderful; we have gone twice.

I'm not sure why it captured my imagination. I could just see myself living there.

Florence, by far!!! It is just such a beautiful city of culture with amazing food, shopping, and sites. I can't imagine another city passing it in my esteem.
KayAnnie, I thought Florence was stylishly beautiful & wonderful. From the elegant apartment buildings, to the amazing shopping, and history at every turn, a world class city for sure!

Trackypup, St. Paul de Vence, is the village where we had booked a private tour. I wa so looking forward to stepping my toe, into the land of my ancestors. Monte Carlo, closed it's port to all ships on our stop there.. All I got was a shot from my blacony.... I hear this town is beautiful!

It's stunning! We've stayed a couple of times at Villa Maxime, just outside the cities walls and absolutely love it. Sorry you didn't get to that part of the world, but a good reason to go back

Kandersteg Switzerland. When I lived in Germany in the early to mid 90s, I had opportunity to visit there twice thanks to my association with the Scouts. First was just a weekend trip, 2nd was a week long ski vacation. Nestled in a valley, I would wake every morning to skies so blue that you thought it was fake. Wonderful friendly people, great chocolate. And the skiing was pretty nice also. And just a short train ride through the mountain to reach Zermatt. Cool city as well.

My opinions are mine and mine alone. They do not represent the opinions of The Walt Disney Company nor any of its subsidiaries.
When we were in Northern Europe 2 years ago, Tallinn, Estonia completely charmed us. It was the most surprisingly open, warm and unique stop we had. Really incredible.
But the places we keep coming back to are Paris and Amsterdam. I think Paris may win by a hair, but only because I just got back from another incredible weekend there.
It's one of the big reasons we made the hop to Europe - having all these places within "easy" reach for a weekend retreat is priceless.
Trip, Taomina was lovely. Rob and I were there this past spring on a repositioning cruise, where we stayed on the ship to catch a few more ports. What I liked also, was to go to Mt. Etna and to go to a wine tasting in that area. Rob and I are looking forward to spending a few days in Barcelona, where our repostioning cruises ends in May. Being the art lover that I am, I am looking forward to seeing all the work done by Gaudi.
Balabusta, had we had our druthers, we would have loved to stay in Barcelona for a while. On the bus ride to the aiport, my head was on swivle. What a fabulous city, and, I also would love to stroll the galleries! One day..maybe

Trip, we were smarter planning our repositioning cruise this time. Previously we booked a hotel in Amsterdam through the cruise line and paid $500 a night. This time, we used a travel agent who was able to get us three nights in a hotel in Barcelona for less than $500 through a hotel discounter. There is a saying, "the more you travel, the more you learn". Rob and I are definitely looking forward to seeing Barcelona!
Since this was my first trip to Europe, I was like a kid, who just soaked everthing in. I loved every country, and everyplace we went. Sadly we could not port in Monaco, due to the rough seas....and I so wanted to touch my toe in France, my Mothers side is French, and we had a private tour to St. Paul de Vence..that broke my heart.
I so loved Taormina, one of the pictures of the main street, from the CM gallery, is now my desktop picture..I see it every day,and smile
Enjoy your cruise!

Trip, I bought two lovely pictures in Taormina that I will always treasure. I read, in one of the travel magazines that I subscribe to, is when you travel buy some artwork of the area and visit a winery. This piece of advice I have listened to!
Monte Carlo, Monaco was my favorite, surprisingly. A lot to see and do in a day, beautiful, spotlessly clean city, great palace tour, great aquarium and city sights. Gorgeous weather in late October, and close to many other Provence sights as well.
Lets travel to the far east. My favorite in my many cruises is Singapore. Its clean, well arranged, plenty of shoping area and lots of sites to visit. Love it.
